「諸王之王亞達薛西，達於精通天上之上帝律法的以斯拉祭司文士等等：現在

看哪，亞述是黎巴嫩的香柏樹，枝條榮美，蔭密如林，極其高大，樹頂高聳入雲。眾水使它生長，深水使它長高；所栽之地有江河環繞，汊出的水道流至田野的樹木。所以它高大超過田野的樹木；生長時因水源豐沛，枝子繁多，枝條增長。空中所有的飛鳥在枝子上搭窩，野地所有的走獸在枝條下生子，所有的大國也在它的蔭下居住。它樹大枝長，極為榮美，因它的根在眾水之旁。上帝園中的香柏樹不能遮蔽它；松樹不及它的枝子，楓樹不及它的枝條，上帝園中的樹都沒有它榮美。我使它枝條繁多，極為榮美；在上帝的園中，伊甸所有的樹都嫉妒它。」所以主耶和華如此說：「因它高大，樹頂高聳入雲，心高氣傲，

因為耶和華至高者是可畏的，他是治理全地的大君王。

你要說，主耶和華如此說：埃及王法老，你這臥在自己江河中的海怪，看哪，我與你為敵。你曾說：『我的尼羅河是我的，是我為自己造的。』

我聽見好像一大羣人的聲音，像眾水的聲音，像大雷的聲音，說：「哈利路亞！因為主－我們的上帝、全能者，作王了。

亞述王的臣僕用猶大話向耶路撒冷城牆上的百姓大聲呼喊，要恐嚇他們，擾亂他們，以便取城。

於是亞述將軍站着，用猶大話大聲喊着說：「你們當聽大王亞述王的話，王如此說：『你們不要被希西家欺哄了，因他不能拯救你們。不要聽憑希西家說服你們倚靠耶和華，他說，耶和華必要拯救我們，這城必不交在亞述王的手中。』你們不要聽希西家的話！因亞述王如此說：『你們要與我講和，出來投降，各人就可以吃自己葡萄樹和無花果樹的果子，喝自己井裏的水，等我來領你們到一個地方，與你們本地一樣，就是有五穀和新酒之地，有糧食和葡萄園之地。恐怕希西家誤導你們說，耶和華必拯救我們。列國的神明有哪一個曾救它本國脫離亞述王的手呢？
