The Lord had driven out other nations to make room for Israel. But they followed the evil practices of those nations. They also followed the practices that the kings of Israel had started.

爾曹至爾上帝耶和華所錫之地、彼民所為可惡之事、爾勿則效。

昔爾居埃及、其土之風俗、爾勿從、今我導汝至迦南、其人之作為、爾勿效、亦勿守其禮儀。

從以色列列王所作、昔異邦之民、行可惡之事、焚獻其子、耶和華當以色列族前逐之、今亞哈士乃效其尤、

以法蓮樂從不義之命、故為人虐取、遭人強暴、

亞哈士王詣大馬色、而迓亞述王滴臘比利斯、在彼見祭壇、遂圖其壇之規模制度、遣人持至祭司烏哩亞所、

暗利王之法度、爾乃恪守焉、亞哈家之愆尤、爾反則傚、與之同謀焉、故我必使爾邑荒蕪、人作怨恨之聲、昔爾為我民、後必為眾戮辱焉。

籌思既竟、作二金犢、告民曰、詣耶路撒冷甚難、昔導以色列族出自埃及之上帝即此。

勿效尤異邦、上天垂象、異邦人所深畏、爾勿畏之、

彼事偶像、乃可惡之事、效尤乎亞摩哩人、耶和華所驅於以色列族前者。

昔斯土之人、專務行此、使地染污、如爾效之、地必不容爾、與彼相同。凡蹈此愆、絕之民中、爾當守我法度、彼之所行、事多可憎、玷及其身、爾毋則傚、我耶和華爾之上帝所命如此。

昔異邦人行可惡之事、耶和華逐之於以色列族中、馬拿西效其尤、作惡於耶和華前。

乃偕異邦人、爰居爰處、染其污俗兮、

從尼八子耶羅破暗所行、猶為細事、乃娶西頓王、謁巴力女、耶洗別為后、遂服事崇拜巴力、在撒馬利亞邑、建巴力殿、內築祭壇、以奉事之、亦作偶像、較以色列前王更甚、干以色列族之上帝耶和華震怒。

猶大族亦不守其上帝耶和華之誡命、從以色列族所擅立之禮儀。

則當謹恪、勿陷於坎阱、勿求其上帝、意謂斯民服事其上帝、我亦必如是以行。蓋彼爇子女、以事其上帝、凡耶和華所惡之事、無不作為、爾之事爾上帝耶和華勿是則是效。
