The Lord had driven out other nations to make room for Israel. But they followed the evil practices of those nations. They also followed the practices that the kings of Israel had started.

卻行以色列諸王的道，又照着耶和華從以色列人面前趕出的外邦人所行可憎的事，使他的兒子經火，

以法蓮因喜愛遵從荒謬的命令，就受欺壓，在審判中被壓碎。

亞哈斯王到大馬士革迎接亞述王提革拉‧毗列色，在大馬士革看見一座壇。亞哈斯王把壇的規模和樣式，以及作法的細節，送到烏利亞祭司那裏。

因為你遵守暗利的規條，行亞哈家一切所行的，順從他們的計謀；因此，我必使你荒涼，使你的居民遭人嗤笑，你們也必擔當我百姓的羞辱。

耶羅波安王就籌劃，鑄造了兩個金牛犢，對眾百姓說：「你們上耶路撒冷去實在夠久了。以色列啊，看哪，這是領你出埃及地的神明。」

耶和華如此說：「不要效法列國的行為，任憑列國因天象驚惶，你們不要驚惶。

瑪拿西行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，效法耶和華在以色列人面前趕出的列國那些可憎的事。

反倒與列國相交，學習他們的行為，

他犯了尼八的兒子耶羅波安所犯的罪，還當作是小事，又娶了西頓王謁巴力的女兒耶洗別為妻，去事奉巴力，敬拜它，又在撒瑪利亞建巴力廟，在廟裏為巴力築壇。亞哈又造亞舍拉，他所做的惹耶和華－以色列的神發怒，比他以前所有的以色列王更嚴重。

但是，猶大也不遵守耶和華－他們神的誡命，效法以色列所立的規條。

那時你要謹慎，在他們從你面前被除滅之後，你不可受引誘隨從他們，也不可求問他們的神明，說：『這些國家怎樣事奉他們的神明，我也要照樣做。』你不可向耶和華－你的神這樣做，因為他們向他們的神明做了耶和華所憎恨、所厭惡的一切事，甚至將自己的兒女用火焚燒，獻給他們的神明。
