The Lord had driven out other nations to make room for Israel. But they followed the evil practices of those nations. They also followed the practices that the kings of Israel had started.

They had followed the practices of the pagan nations the Lord had driven from the land ahead of them, as well as the practices the kings of Israel had introduced.

They lived according to the customs of the nations that the LORD had dispossessed before the Israelites and according to what the kings of Israel did.
