你們曾經住在埃及，但不可效法埃及人的行為。我要把你們帶到迦南，但你們不可效法迦南人的行為，不可隨從他們的風俗。

反而步以色列諸王的後塵，效法耶和華在以色列人面前趕走的外族人的可憎行徑，把自己的兒子焚燒獻作祭物。

以法蓮因甘願追隨偶像而受欺壓，被審判壓碎。

亞哈斯王在大馬士革見亞述王提革拉·毗列色的時候，看到一座壇，便派人將壇的模型和詳細的製造方法送到烏利亞祭司那裡。

因為你遵守暗利的惡規，效法亞哈家的惡行，隨從他們的計謀，所以我要使你荒涼，讓你的居民成為笑柄。你們要蒙受列國的羞辱。」

他徵詢臣僚的意見後，就鑄造了兩個金牛犢，對民眾說：「以色列人啊，你們上耶路撒冷敬拜太麻煩了。這兩個金牛犢就是領你們出埃及的神明。」

耶和華說：「不要效法列國的行為。他們被天象嚇倒，你們卻不要因天象而害怕。

他像被耶和華驅逐的亞摩利人一樣祭拜神像，行為可憎。

因為在你們之前居住在那裡的人做了這些可憎之事，玷污了那片土地。如果你們玷污了那片土地，它也會像吐出從前的居民一樣把你們吐出去。凡做這些可憎之事的，要將他從民中剷除。你們要遵守我的命令，不要效法那片土地上居民的惡俗，以致玷污自己。我是你們的上帝耶和華。」

他做耶和華視為惡的事，效法耶和華在以色列人面前趕走的外族人的可憎行徑。

反倒與他們混居，仿效他們的習俗，

他不但步尼八的兒子耶羅波安的後塵，還娶了西頓王葉巴力的女兒耶洗別為妻，供奉、祭拜巴力。他在撒瑪利亞為巴力建廟，在廟裡為巴力設立祭壇。他還造了亞舍拉神像，所作所為比先前諸王更惹以色列的上帝耶和華發怒。

但猶大人也不遵守他們的上帝耶和華的誡命，反而效法以色列人的惡行。

那時，你們要謹慎，不可受誘惑去效法他們的習俗，不可打聽他們神明的事，說，『這些民族怎樣供奉他們的神明呢？我也要效法。』你們不可按照他們的方式敬拜你們的上帝耶和華。他們祭拜自己神明的種種行為令耶和華憎惡，他們甚至焚燒自己的兒女獻給他們的神明。
