Even while these people were worshiping the Lord, they were serving their idols. To this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their ancestors did.

They worshiped the Lord. But at the same time, they served the statues of their gods. And to this day their children and grandchildren continue to do what their people before them did.

So these nations feared the Lord and also served their carved images. Their children did likewise, and their children’s children— as their fathers did, so they do to this day.

So while these new residents worshiped the Lord, they also worshiped their idols. And to this day their descendants do the same.

They feared the LORD but also served their idols. Still today, their children and grandchildren continue doing as their ancestors did.

就是那些在房頂上敬拜天上萬象的，那些敬拜耶和華，指著他起誓，又指著瑪勒公起誓的，

“一個人不能服事兩個主人；他若不是恨這個愛那個，就是忠於這個輕視那個。你們不能服事神，又服事金錢﹙“金錢”亞蘭文是“瑪門”。﹚。

以利亞走近眾人說：“你們三心兩意，要到幾時呢？如果耶和華是神，你們就應當隨從耶和華；如果巴力是神，你們就應當隨從巴力。”眾人一句話也不回答。

他們也懼怕耶和華，所以從他們中間選立邱壇的祭司，替他們在邱壇的廟裡獻祭。他們既懼怕耶和華，又服事他們的神；從哪個民族擄來的，就按照哪個民族的習俗服事他們的神。

“現在你們要敬畏耶和華，真誠地按著真理事奉他，把你們列祖在大河那邊和在埃及事奉的神除掉，去事奉耶和華。如果你們認為事奉耶和華不好，那麼今日你們就可以選擇你們所要事奉的：是你們列祖在大河那邊事奉的神呢，還是你們現在所住亞摩利人之地的神呢？至於我和我家，我們必事奉耶和華。”眾民回答：“我們絕對不會離棄耶和華，去事奉別的神；因為耶和華我們的神把我們和我們的列祖，從埃及地為奴的家領出來，並且在我們眼前行了那些偉大的神蹟；又在我們所行的一切路上，和我們經過的一切民族中間，他都保護了我們；耶和華又把所有的民族和住在這地的亞摩利人，都從我們面前趕走；所以我們必事奉耶和華，因為他是我們的神。”約書亞對眾民說：“你們不能事奉耶和華，因為他是聖潔的神；他是嫉妒的神，他必不赦免你們的過犯和罪惡。如果你們離棄耶和華，去事奉外族人的神，那麼在耶和華賜福給你們之後，他必轉而降禍與你們，把你們消滅。”

我知道你的行為，你不冷也不熱；我巴不得你或冷或熱。因為你好像溫水，不熱也不冷，所以我要把你從我口中吐出去。

猶大和便雅憫的敵人聽見被擄回來的人為耶和華以色列的神重建聖殿，就前來見所羅巴伯和眾族長，對他們說：“請讓我們與你們一起建造吧！因為我們也像你們那樣尋求你們的神。自從亞述王以撒哈頓把我們帶上這裡的日子以來，我們一直向他獻祭。”但所羅巴伯、耶書亞和以色列其餘的族長對他們說：“你們不能與我們一同建築神的殿，因為波斯王古列王吩咐我們自己為耶和華以色列的神建殿。”
