But the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea was a traitor, for he had sent envoys to So king of Egypt, and he no longer paid tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore Shalmaneser seized him and put him in prison.

But the king of Assyria found out that Hoshea had turned against him. Hoshea had sent messengers to So, the king of Egypt. Hoshea didn’t send gifts to the king of Assyria anymore. He had been sending them every year. So Shalmaneser grabbed him and put him in prison.

But the king of Assyria found treachery in Hoshea, for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria shut him up and bound him in prison.

But Hoshea stopped paying the annual tribute and conspired against the king of Assyria by asking King So of Egypt to help him shake free of Assyria’s power. When the king of Assyria discovered this treachery, he seized Hoshea and put him in prison.

爾於埃及、倚之若杖、不知彼猶已折之萑葦、按手其上、必為所刺、凡倚埃及王法老者亦若是、

耶和華曰、悖逆者流、惟設計謀、不仰望予、灌奠以要約、感予神者、弗順從之、其罪益深、禍將及矣、彼不諮諏我意、乃往埃及、藉法老之勢力、望埃及之庇蔭、爾惟法老之勢力是恃、埃及之庇蔭是賴、則必含羞蒙恥、牧伯至鎖安國、使詣哈匿、

干耶和華震怒、耶路撒冷猶大之民、咸被驅逐。

與王子結約、加以盟誓、取其世家為質、使國為卑、不復振興、但守盟約、猶可自保。乃王子背巴比倫王約、遣使至埃及、欲其率軍馬以至、彼行是事、豈能亨通、豈能免難、爽約之人、豈能獲救。我耶和華指己而誓、王子既為巴比倫王所立、藐視其主、爽其盟約、則必至巴比倫而沒、敵既築壘建營、欲滅邑眾、法老雖率旅眾多、以助其戰、亦必不利、蓋王子於立約之後、不以盟誓為重、而爽其約、故不能免難。主耶和華又曰、彼藐視約言、而背我命、我指己而誓、必罰其罪、

猶大王希西家遣人至拉吉、見亞述王曰、我知罪矣、請勿侵我國、惟爾命是聽。亞述王責貢於猶大王希西家金四萬五千兩、銀四十五萬兩。希西家以耶和華殿、與王宮府庫、所有之銀、悉以為饋、

維彼異邦、受其譴責、惟其人民、咸遭撻伐兮、列國之王、繫以鐵索、貴顯之臣、囚以桎梏兮、

是時巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒征猶大、約雅金臣服三年、後復謀叛、

乃殺西底家諸子、使其目睹之、然後瞽其目、繫以銅索、解至巴比倫。

人往埃及、求其助己、見車馬眾多、驍騎勇猛、則以之是恃、不恃以色列族之聖主耶和華而求其眷祐、其禍必不遠矣、上帝至明、言出惟行、勃然以興、降災於惡人、凡助惡者、亦降罰焉、埃及之眾、人也、非上帝也、所乘之馬、凡馬也、非神馬也、耶和華舉手降罰、輔翼惡人者、皆顛其趾、為惡人所扶持者、咸遭傾覆、淪胥以亡、

希西家許爾上帝耶和華必拯爾於亞述王手、豈非誘爾、飢渴而死。
