But the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea was a traitor, for he had sent envoys to So king of Egypt, and he no longer paid tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore Shalmaneser seized him and put him in prison.

But the king of Assyria found out that Hoshea had turned against him. Hoshea had sent messengers to So, the king of Egypt. Hoshea didn’t send gifts to the king of Assyria anymore. He had been sending them every year. So Shalmaneser grabbed him and put him in prison.

But the king of Assyria found treachery in Hoshea, for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria shut him up and bound him in prison.

But Hoshea stopped paying the annual tribute and conspired against the king of Assyria by asking King So of Egypt to help him shake free of Assyria’s power. When the king of Assyria discovered this treachery, he seized Hoshea and put him in prison.

看哪，你所倚靠的埃及是那壓傷的葦杖；人若靠這杖，就必刺透他的手。埃及王法老向一切倚靠他的人也是這樣。

耶和華說：禍哉！這悖逆的兒女。他們同謀，卻不由於我，結盟，卻不由於我的靈，以致罪上加罪；起身下埃及去，並沒有求問我；要靠法老的力量加添自己的力量，並投在埃及的蔭下。所以，法老的力量必作你們的羞辱；投在埃及的蔭下，要為你們的慚愧。他們的首領已在瑣安；他們的使臣到了哈內斯。

因此耶和華的怒氣在耶路撒冷和猶大發作，以致將人民從自己面前趕出。

從以色列的宗室中取一人與他立約，使他發誓，並將國中有勢力的人擄去，使國低微不能自強，惟因守盟約得以存立。他卻背叛巴比倫王，打發使者往埃及去，要他們給他馬匹和多民。他豈能亨通呢？行這樣事的人豈能逃脫呢？他背約豈能逃脫呢？他輕看向王所起的誓，背棄王與他所立的約。主耶和華說：我指着我的永生起誓，他定要死在立他作王、巴比倫王的京都。敵人築壘造臺，與他打仗的時候，為要剪除多人，法老雖領大軍隊和大羣眾，還是不能幫助他。他輕看誓言，背棄盟約，已經投降，卻又做這一切的事，他必不能逃脫。」所以主耶和華如此說：「我指着我的永生起誓，他既輕看指我所起的誓，背棄指我所立的約，我必要使這罪歸在他頭上。

猶大王希西家差人往拉吉去見亞述王，說：「我有罪了，求你離開我；凡你罰我的，我必承當。」於是亞述王罰猶大王希西家銀子三百他連得，金子三十他連得。希西家就把耶和華殿裏和王宮府庫裏所有的銀子都給了他。

為要報復列邦，刑罰萬民。要用鍊子捆他們的君王，用鐵鐐鎖他們的大臣；

約雅敬年間，巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒上到猶大；約雅敬服事他三年，然後背叛他。

在西底家眼前殺了他的眾子，並且剜了西底家的眼睛，用銅鍊鎖着他，帶到巴比倫去。

禍哉！那些下埃及求幫助的，是因仗賴馬匹，倚靠甚多的車輛，並倚靠強壯的馬兵，卻不仰望以色列的聖者，也不求問耶和華。其實，耶和華有智慧；他必降災禍，並不反悔自己的話，卻要興起攻擊那作惡之家，又攻擊那作孽幫助人的。埃及人不過是人，並不是神；他們的馬不過是血肉，並不是靈。耶和華一伸手，那幫助人的必絆跌，那受幫助的也必跌倒，都一同滅亡。

希西家對你們說「耶和華－我們的神必救我們脫離亞述王的手」，這不是誘惑你們，使你們受飢渴而死嗎？
