But the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea was a traitor, for he had sent envoys to So king of Egypt, and he no longer paid tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore Shalmaneser seized him and put him in prison.

But the king of Assyria found out that Hoshea had turned against him. Hoshea had sent messengers to So, the king of Egypt. Hoshea didn’t send gifts to the king of Assyria anymore. He had been sending them every year. So Shalmaneser grabbed him and put him in prison.

But the king of Assyria found treachery in Hoshea, for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria shut him up and bound him in prison.

But Hoshea stopped paying the annual tribute and conspired against the king of Assyria by asking King So of Egypt to help him shake free of Assyria’s power. When the king of Assyria discovered this treachery, he seized Hoshea and put him in prison.

你看，你倚赖埃及这压伤的芦苇做的手杖，人若是倚靠它，它必刺入他的手，把手刺伤，埃及王法老对所有倚赖他的人正是这样。

耶和华说：“这些悖逆的儿女有祸了！他们实行计谋，却不是出于我的意思，他们结盟，却不是出于我的灵，以致罪上加罪。他们起程下埃及去，并没有求问我，却要在法老的保护下，作避难处，投靠在埃及的荫庇下。因此，法老的保护必成为你们的羞耻，投靠在埃及的荫庇下，变成你们的耻辱。他们的领袖虽然已在琐安，他们的使臣虽然已到达哈内斯，

因为耶和华的怒气向耶路撒冷和犹大发作，直到他把他们从自己的面前赶走。后来，西底家背叛了巴比伦王。

他从以色列王室后裔中选出一人，与他立约，叫他起誓，并且把国中那些有势力的人掳去，使国衰微，不能再兴盛，唯有谨守条约他才可以继续存在。可是这人背叛了巴比伦王，差遣使者到埃及去，要得战马和大军。他能亨通吗？行这样事的人，怎能逃脱呢？他破坏条约，怎能逃脱呢？我指着我的永生起誓：他藐视了自己所起的誓，背弃了与王所立的约，因此他必死在巴比伦，就是那立他作王的巴比伦王的国家。这是耶和华的宣告。敌人建造围城的高墙，筑起攻城土垒要剪除多人的时候，法老率领大军和大队人马，还是不能帮助他作战。他藐视誓言，背弃条约；他已宣誓效忠，却又行了这一切事，所以他必不能逃脱。因此主耶和华这样说：我指着我的永生起誓：他既然藐视我的誓言，背弃我的约，我必使这罪归到他的头上。

犹大王希西家派人往拉吉去见亚述王说：“我有罪了，请你离我回去吧，你们加于我的处分，我必承当。”于是亚述王罚了犹大王希西家九千公斤银子和九百公斤金子。希西家就把耶和华殿和王宫宝库内找到的所有金子都给了他。

为要报复列国，惩罚万民；用锁链捆住他们的君王，用铁镣锁住他们的权贵，

约雅敬在位的时候，巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒来攻打他，约雅敬就臣服他三年，后来却反悔，背叛他。

他们又在西底家眼前杀了他的众子，并且把西底家的眼睛弄瞎，然后用铜链锁住他，把他带到巴比伦去。

那些下埃及求帮助，倚靠马匹，倚靠众多战车，依靠十分强壮的马兵，却不仰望以色列的圣者，也不求问耶和华的，有祸了！耶和华是智慧的，他必降下灾祸，决不收回自己的话，却要起来攻击作恶者之家，又攻击那些助人作孽的。埃及人是人，并不是神；他们的马匹是血肉，并不是灵；耶和华一伸手，那帮助人的就绊倒，那受帮助的也必仆倒，并且一同灭亡。

希西家曾对你们说：耶和华我们的神必拯救我们脱离亚述王的手。他不是迷惑你们，使你们因饥渴而死吗？
