Again and again the Lord had sent his prophets and seers to warn both Israel and Judah:“ Turn from all your evil ways. Obey my commands and decrees— the entire law that I commanded your ancestors to obey, and that I gave you through my servants the prophets.”

At that time the king of Assyria exiled the Israelites to Assyria and placed them in colonies in Halah, along the banks of the Habor River in Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.For they refused to listen to the Lord their God and obey him. Instead, they violated his covenant— all the laws that Moses the Lord’s servant had commanded them to obey.

He will abandon Israel because Jeroboam sinned and made Israel sin along with him.”

The Lord rejected all the descendants of Israel. He punished them by handing them over to their attackers until he had banished Israel from his presence.

So I will send you into exile, to a land east of Damascus,” says the Lord, whose name is the God of Heaven’s Armies.

And the Lord said to Hosea,“ Name your daughter Lo ruhamah—‘ Not loved’— for I will no longer show love to the people of Israel or forgive them.But I will show love to the people of Judah. I will free them from their enemies— not with weapons and armies or horses and charioteers, but by my power as the Lord their God.”After Gomer had weaned Lo ruhamah, she again became pregnant and gave birth to a second son.And the Lord said,“ Name him Lo ammi—‘ Not my people’— for Israel is not my people, and I am not their God.

“ So I, the Lord, will make the city of Samaria a heap of ruins. Her streets will be plowed up for planting vineyards. I will roll the stones of her walls into the valley below, exposing her foundations.

Then at the Lord’s command, he shouted,“ O altar, altar! This is what the Lord says: A child named Josiah will be born into the dynasty of David. On you he will sacrifice the priests from the pagan shrines who come here to burn incense, and human bones will be burned on you.”
