The Lord took control of Israel away from the royal house of David. The Israelites made Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, their king. Jeroboam tried to get Israel to stop following the Lord. He caused them to commit a terrible sin.

So the king consulted, and he made two golden calves; and he said to the people,“ It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem; behold your gods, Israel, that brought you up from the land of Egypt.”And he set up one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.Now this thing became a sin, for the people went to worship before the one as far as Dan.

He will give up Israel because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he committed and with which he misled Israel into sin.”

So the king did not listen to the people, because it was a turn of events from God so that the Lord might establish His word, which He spoke through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.When all Israel saw that the king had not listened to them, the people replied to the king, saying,“ What share do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. Everyone to your tents, Israel! Now look after your own house, David!” So all Israel went away to their tents.But as for the sons of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, and the sons of Israel stoned him to death. And King Rehoboam hurried to mount his chariot to flee to Jerusalem.So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.

He set up priests of his own for the high places, for the satyrs and the calves which he had made.

For the sake of Your name, Lord, Forgive my wrongdoing, for it is great.

And so the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord, for the men treated the offering of the Lord disrespectfully.

So Israel has broken with the house of David to this day.And it came about, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, that they sent word and called him to the assembly, and made him king over all Israel. None except the tribe of Judah alone followed the house of David.

Jesus answered him,“ You would have no authority over Me at all, if it had not been given to you from above; for this reason the one who handed Me over to you has the greater sin.”

He also strengthened the fortresses and put officers in them and supplies of food, oil, and wine.

Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him,“ What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me things that ought not to be done.”

Then Moses said to Aaron,“ What did this people do to you, that you have brought such a great sin upon them?”

No, my sons; for the report is not good which I hear the Lord’s people circulating.
