The Lord took control of Israel away from the royal house of David. The Israelites made Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, their king. Jeroboam tried to get Israel to stop following the Lord. He caused them to commit a terrible sin.

因耶羅波安所犯的罪，又使以色列人陷在罪裏，耶和華必將以色列人交給仇敵。」

王不肯依從百姓；這事乃出於神，為要應驗耶和華藉示羅人亞希雅對尼八兒子耶羅波安所說的話。以色列眾民見王不依從他們，就對王說：我們與大衛有甚麼分兒呢？與耶西的兒子並沒有關涉！以色列人哪，各回各家去吧！大衛家啊，自己顧自己吧！於是，以色列眾人都回自己家裏去了。惟獨住在猶大城邑的以色列人，羅波安仍作他們的王。羅波安王差遣掌管服苦之人的哈多蘭往以色列人那裏去，以色列人就用石頭打死他。羅波安王急忙上車，逃回耶路撒冷去了。這樣，以色列人背叛大衛家，直到今日。

耶羅波安為邱壇、為鬼魔、為自己所鑄造的牛犢設立祭司。

耶和華啊，求你因你的名赦免我的罪，因為我的罪重大。

將國從大衛家奪回賜給你；你卻不效法我僕人大衛，遵守我的誡命，一心順從我，行我眼中看為正的事。

耶和華必使亞述王攻擊你的日子臨到你和你的百姓，並你的父家，自從以法蓮離開猶大以來，未曾有這樣的日子。

如此，這二少年人的罪在耶和華面前甚重了，因為他們藐視耶和華的祭物。

這樣，以色列人背叛大衛家，直到今日。以色列眾人聽見耶羅波安回來了，就打發人去請他到會眾面前，立他作以色列眾人的王。除了猶大支派以外，沒有順從大衛家的。

耶穌回答說：「若不是從上頭賜給你的，你就毫無權柄辦我。所以，把我交給你的那人罪更重了。」

羅波安又堅固各處的保障，在其中安置軍長，又預備下糧食、油、酒。

亞比米勒召了亞伯拉罕來，對他說：「你怎麼向我這樣行呢？我在甚麼事上得罪了你，你竟使我和我國裏的人陷在大罪裏？你向我行不當行的事了！」

摩西對亞倫說：「這百姓向你做了甚麼？你竟使他們陷在大罪裏！」

我兒啊，不可這樣！我聽見你們的風聲不好，你們使耶和華的百姓犯了罪。
