They forsook all the commands of the Lord their God and made for themselves two idols cast in the shape of calves, and an Asherah pole. They bowed down to all the starry hosts, and they worshiped Baal.

They turned away from all the commands of the Lord their God. They made two statues of gods for themselves. The statues were shaped like calves. They made a pole used to worship the female god named Asherah. They bowed down to all the stars. And they worshiped the god named Baal.

And they abandoned all the commandments of the Lord their God, and made for themselves metal images of two calves; and they made an Asherah and worshiped all the host of heaven and served Baal.

They rejected all the commands of the Lord their God and made two calves from metal. They set up an Asherah pole and worshiped Baal and all the forces of heaven.

王打定了主意，就做了兩個金牛犢，對眾民說：“以色列人哪，你們上耶路撒冷去實在夠了。看哪，這是你們的神，就是從埃及地領你們上來的那位。”

亞哈犯了尼八的兒子耶羅波安所犯的罪，還以為是小事。他又娶了西頓王謁巴力的女兒耶洗別作妻子，去服事巴力，敬拜巴力。

耶和華必擊打以色列人，他們就擺動，像蘆葦在水中擺動一樣。他要把以色列人從他賜給他們列祖的這塊美地上拔出來，把他們分散在幼發拉底河那邊，因為他們做了亞舍拉，惹耶和華發怒。

他們又為自己在各高岡上，各茂盛樹下建造邱壇、神柱和亞舍拉。

又恐怕你抬頭望天，看見日、月、星，就是天上萬象的時候，就被勾引，去敬拜和事奉它們，那原是耶和華你們的神分給天下萬民享用的。

他重新建造邱壇，就是他父親希西家所拆毀的；又為巴力建立祭壇，做亞舍拉，好像以色列王亞哈所做的，並且敬拜事奉天上的萬象。

亞哈又做了亞舍拉，亞哈所行的，惹耶和華以色列的神發怒，比他以前所有的以色列王更厲害。

他事奉巴力，敬拜巴力，照著他父親所行的一切惹耶和華以色列的神發怒。

並且廢除他祖母瑪迦太后的后位，因為她為亞舍拉做了可怕的偶像。亞撒把她那可怕的偶像砍下來，在汲淪溪旁燒掉。

然後當地所有的人民都來到巴力廟，把它拆毀，把它的壇和像完全打碎，又在祭壇前把巴力的祭司瑪坦殺了。耶何耶大祭司又設立官員管理耶和華的殿。

製造偶像的人，盡都是虛空的，他們所喜愛的，都沒有益處。他們的見證人，一無所見，一無所知，以致他們蒙羞。誰製造神像，或鑄造偶像，不想得到益處呢？

亞倫從他們手中接過來，用雕刻的工具雕刻，鑄造了一個牛像；他們就說：“以色列啊，這就是你們的神，就是把你從埃及地領出來的那位。”

拋散在太陽、月亮和天上的萬象之下，就是他們從前所愛慕、服事、跟隨、求問、敬拜的。這些骸骨必不再被收殮埋葬，必在地面上成為糞肥。

有火在他們的黨羽中燃燒起來，烈燄焚毀了惡人。他們在何烈山做了牛犢，敬拜鑄成的偶像。這樣，他們用吃草的牛的像，代替了他們的榮耀的神。

又在各高山頂上和每一棵青翠的樹下豎立神柱和亞舍拉。

他們很快就偏離了我吩咐他們的道路，為自己鑄造了一個牛像，向它跪拜，向它獻祭，說：‘以色列啊，這就是你的神，就是把你從埃及地領出來的那位。’”

耶戶集合眾民，對他們說：“從前亞哈信奉巴力還算是少，耶戶要信奉更多。現在，所有的巴力先知、所有信奉他的和他所有的祭司都要給我召來，不要走漏一人；因為我要向巴力獻一個極大的祭，缺席的必不得活。”耶戶用詭計這樣行，是要除滅所有信奉巴力的人。耶戶又說：“要為巴力召開一個嚴肅會。”於是眾人宣告召開大會。耶戶派人走遍以色列各地，所有信奉巴力的人都來了，沒有一個不來的。他們都進了巴力廟，以致巴力廟從這邊到那邊都塞滿了人。耶戶對掌管衣櫥的說：“把禮服拿出來，給所有拜巴力的人穿。”他就把禮服拿出來給他們穿上。耶戶和利甲的兒子約拿達來到巴力的廟中。他對信奉巴力的人說：“搜查看看，這裡不要有信奉耶和華的人和你們同在一起，只可以有信奉巴力的人。”他們進去獻祭和獻燔祭。耶戶布置了八十個人在外面，說：“如果我帶來交在你們手中的人，有一個從他們中間逃脫了，你們就要以命抵命。”耶戶獻完了燔祭，就對衛兵和軍長說：“你們進去，殺死他們，一個也不讓他們出來。”衛兵和軍長於是用刀擊殺他們，又把他們的屍體拋出去，然後往巴力廟的內室去了。他們又把巴力廟內的神柱搬出去燒了。他們毀壞了巴力的神柱，又拆毀了巴力廟，作為廁所，直到今日。這樣，耶戶從以色列中消滅了巴力。
