那時亞蘭王哈薛上來，攻打迦特，把它奪取了。他又決心上來攻打耶路撒冷。猶大王約阿施於是拿出所有的聖物，就是他的祖先猶大王約沙法、約蘭和亞哈謝所獻的聖物，以及他自己所獻的聖物，還有耶和華殿和王宮寶庫裡所有的金子，送給亞蘭王哈薛，哈薛就離開耶路撒冷去了。

亞哈斯又砍掉盆座的邊緣，把洗濯盆拿下來，又把銅海從馱著銅海的銅牛上取下來，放在鋪了石的地上。又因亞述王的緣故，他把耶和華殿裡為安息日而建造的廊子，和王從外邊進殿的廊子，從耶和華的殿內拆除。

希西家就把耶和華殿和王宮寶庫內找到的所有金子都給了他。那時，猶大王希西家把耶和華殿門上和自己包在門柱上的金子，都刮了下來，給了亞述王。

亞述王提革拉．毘尼色來到他那裡，不但沒有援助他，反倒欺壓他。亞哈斯取了耶和華殿裡和王宮中，以及眾領袖家裡的財寶，給了亞述王，但也無濟於事。

於是亞撒從耶和華的殿和王宮的庫房裡取出金銀來，送給住在大馬士革的亞蘭王便．哈達，說：

因此，主必使大河又強又大的水臨到他們，就是亞述王和他一切威榮，水必漲起來，高過所有的水道；水要氾濫，漫過所有的河岸；然後必沖入猶大，漲溢氾濫，直到頸項，以馬內利啊！它展開的翅膀必遮遍你廣闊的地土。”

他挖掘坑穴，挖得深深的，自己卻掉進所挖的陷阱裡。他的惡毒必回到自己的頭上，他的強暴必落在自己的頭頂上。

“耶和華必使災難的日子臨到你和你的人民，以及你的父家，自從以法蓮脫離猶大以來，未曾有過這樣的日子，就是亞述王的入侵。”
