So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and for a long time he kept them under the power of Hazael king of Aram and Ben-Hadad his son.

So the Lord was very angry with Israel. For a long time he kept them under the power of Hazael, the king of Aram. The Lord also kept them under the power of his son Ben- Hadad.

And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he gave them continually into the hand of Hazael king of Syria and into the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael.

So the Lord was very angry with Israel, and he allowed King Hazael of Aram and his son Ben hadad to defeat them repeatedly.

Then Jehu will put to death whoever escapes the sword of Hazael, and Elisha will put to death whoever escapes the sword of Jehu.

At that time King Hazael of Aram marched up and fought against Gath and captured it. Then he planned to attack Jerusalem.

For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.“ When you have children and grandchildren and have been in the land a long time, and if you act corruptly, make an idol in the form of anything, and do what is evil in the sight of the LORD your God, angering him,I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that you will quickly perish from the land you are about to cross the Jordan to possess. You will not live long there, but you will certainly be destroyed.The LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be reduced to a few survivors among the nations where the LORD your God will drive you.

for our God is a consuming fire.

I will turn against you, so that you will be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even though no one is pursuing you.

and Hazael asked,“ Why is my lord weeping?” He replied,“ Because I know the evil you will do to the people of Israel. You will set their fortresses on fire. You will kill their young men with the sword. You will dash their children to pieces. You will rip open their pregnant women.”Hazael said,“ How could your servant, a mere dog, do such a mighty deed?” Elisha answered,“ The LORD has shown me that you will be king over Aram.”

The LORD will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will march out against them from one direction but flee from them in seven directions. You will be an object of horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.

Woe to Assyria, the rod of my anger— the staff in their hands is my wrath.I will send him against a godless nation; I will command him to go against a people destined for my rage, to take spoils, to plunder, and to trample them down like clay in the streets.

Israel was greatly oppressed,so they cried out to the LORD, saying,“ We have sinned against you. We have abandoned our God and worshiped the Baals.”The LORD said to the Israelites,“ When the Egyptians, Amorites, Ammonites, Philistines,Sidonians, Amalekites, and Maonites oppressed you, and you cried out to me, did I not deliver you from them?But you have abandoned me and worshiped other gods. Therefore, I will not deliver you again.Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them deliver you whenever you are oppressed.”
