當日，約書亞就與百姓立約，在示劍為他們立定律例典章。

現在當與我們的神立約，休這一切的妻，離絕她們所生的，照着我主和那因神命令戰兢之人所議定的，按律法而行。

他們就立約，要盡心盡性地尋求耶和華－他們列祖的神。凡不尋求耶和華－以色列神的，無論大小、男女，必被治死。他們就大聲歡呼，吹號吹角，向耶和華起誓。

撒母耳將國法對百姓說明，又記在書上，放在耶和華面前，然後遣散眾民，各回各家去了。

現在我心中有意與耶和華－以色列的神立約，好使他的烈怒轉離我們。

其餘的民、祭司、利未人、守門的、歌唱的、尼提寧，和一切離絕鄰邦居民歸服神律法的，並他們的妻子、兒女，凡有知識能明白的，都隨從他們貴冑的弟兄，發咒起誓，必遵行神藉他僕人摩西所傳的律法，謹守遵行耶和華－我們主的一切誡命、典章、律例；

在上有權柄的，人人當順服他，因為沒有權柄不是出於神的。凡掌權的都是神所命的。所以，抗拒掌權的就是抗拒神的命；抗拒的必自取刑罰。作官的原不是叫行善的懼怕，乃是叫作惡的懼怕。你願意不懼怕掌權的嗎？你只要行善，就可得他的稱讚；因為他是神的用人，是與你有益的。你若作惡，卻當懼怕，因為他不是空空地佩劍；他是神的用人，是伸冤的，刑罰那作惡的。所以，你們必須順服，不但是因為刑罰，也是因為良心。你們納糧，也為這個緣故；因他們是神的差役，常常特管這事。

第七年，耶何耶大打發人叫迦利人和護衛兵的眾百夫長來，領他們進了耶和華的殿，與他們立約，使他們在耶和華殿裏起誓，又將王的兒子指給他們看，

並且他們所做的，不但照我們所想望的，更照神的旨意先把自己獻給主，又歸附了我們。

於是以色列的長老都來到希伯崙見大衛王。大衛在希伯崙耶和華面前與他們立約，他們就膏大衛作以色列的王，是照耶和華藉撒母耳所說的話。

耶何耶大與眾民和王立約，都要作耶和華的民。

這是耶和華在摩押地吩咐摩西與以色列人立約的話，是在他和他們於何烈山所立的約之外。摩西召了以色列眾人來，對他們說：「耶和華在埃及地，在你們眼前向法老和他眾臣僕，並他全地所行的一切事，你們都看見了，就是你親眼看見的大試驗和神蹟，並那些大奇事。但耶和華到今日沒有使你們心能明白，眼能看見，耳能聽見。我領你們在曠野四十年，你們身上的衣服並沒有穿破，腳上的鞋也沒有穿壞。你們沒有吃餅，也沒有喝清酒濃酒。這要使你們知道，耶和華是你們的神。你們來到這地方，希實本王西宏、巴珊王噩都出來與我們交戰，我們就擊殺了他們，取了他們的地給呂便支派、迦得支派，和瑪拿西半支派為業。所以你們要謹守遵行這約的話，好叫你們在一切所行的事上亨通。「今日，你們的首領、族長、長老、官長、以色列的男丁，你們的妻子兒女，和營中寄居的，以及為你們劈柴挑水的人，都站在耶和華－你們的神面前，

眾人說：「我們必歸還，不再向他們索要，必照你的話行。」我就召了祭司來，叫眾人起誓，必照着所應許的而行。我也抖着胸前的衣襟，說：「凡不成就這應許的，願神照樣抖他離開家產和他勞碌得來的，直到抖空了。」會眾都說：「阿們！」又讚美耶和華。百姓就照着所應許的去行。

因這一切的事，我們立確實的約，寫在冊上。我們的首領、利未人，和祭司都簽了名。

耶和華－我們的神在何烈山與我們立約。這約不是與我們列祖立的，乃是與我們今日在這裏存活之人立的。
