這樣，寧示的孫子，約沙法的兒子耶戶背叛了約蘭。先前約蘭和以色列眾人因為亞蘭王哈薛的緣故，把守基列的拉末。後來約蘭王回到耶斯列，醫治他與亞蘭王哈薛打仗時，被亞蘭人擊打所受的傷。耶戶說：「若你們有這樣的意思，就不要讓人溜出城，到耶斯列去報信。」於是耶戶駕戰車往耶斯列去，因為約蘭臥病在那裏。猶大王亞哈謝已經下去看望他。有一個守望的人站在耶斯列的城樓上，看見耶戶帶着一隊人來，就說：「我看見一隊人。」約蘭說：「派一個騎兵去迎接他們，問說：『平安嗎？』」騎兵就去迎接耶戶，說：「王如此說：『平安嗎？』」耶戶說：「平安不平安跟你有甚麼關係呢？轉身跟在我後面吧！」守望的人說：「使者到了他們那裏，卻不回來。」王又派第二個騎兵去。這人到了他們那裏，說：「王如此說：『平安嗎？』」耶戶說：「平安不平安跟你有甚麼關係呢？轉身跟在我後面吧！」守望的人又說：「他到了他們那裏，也不回來。車駕得很兇猛，好像寧示的孫子耶戶在駕車。」約蘭吩咐說：「套車！」人就給他套車。以色列王約蘭和猶大王亞哈謝各坐自己的車出去迎接耶戶，在耶斯列人拿伯的田那裏遇見他。約蘭見耶戶就說：「耶戶，平安嗎？」耶戶說：「你母親耶洗別的淫行邪術這樣多，怎麼能平安呢？」約蘭用手轉過車來逃跑，對亞哈謝說：「亞哈謝啊，反了！」耶戶全力拉弓，射中約蘭兩臂中間，箭從心窩穿出，約蘭就仆倒在車上。

耶路撒冷的居民和猶大人哪，現在，請你們在我與我的葡萄園之間斷定是非。

耶和華對何西阿說：「給他起名叫耶斯列；因為再過片時，我要懲罰耶戶家在耶斯列流人血的罪，也必終結以色列家的王朝。

我在這裏，你們要在耶和華和他的受膏者面前為我作證，我奪過誰的牛，搶過誰的驢，欺負過誰，虐待過誰，從誰手裏收過賄賂而蒙蔽自己的眼目呢？若有，我必償還。」
