At this the king sent to Elijah another captain with his fifty men. The captain said to him,“ Man of God, this is what the king says,‘ Come down at once!’”

After that happened, the king sent another captain to Elijah. The captain had his 50 men with him. He said to Elijah,“ Man of God, the king says,‘ Come down at once!’ ”

So the king sent another captain with fifty men. The captain said to him,“ Man of God, the king demands that you come down at once.”

So the king sent another captain with his fifty men to Elijah. He took in the situation and announced,“ Man of God, this is what the king says:‘ Come down immediately!’”

So the king again sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty men. And he said to him,“ You man of God, this is what the king says:‘ Come down quickly!’ ”

Then he sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty men. And he answered and said to him:“ Man of God, thus has the king said,‘ Come down quickly!’”

And again he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly.

So the king sent another captain of 50 with his 50 men to Elijah. He took in the situation and announced,“ Man of God, this is what the king says:‘ Come down immediately!’”

Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly.

The king sent another captain and his fifty soldiers to retrieve Elijah. He went up and told him,“ Prophet, this is what the king says,‘ Come down at once!’”

Again he sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty. He answered him,“ Man of God, the king has said,‘ Come down quickly!’”

and watch. If it goes up on the way to its own land, to Beth-shemesh, then it is he who has done us this great harm, but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that struck us; it happened to us by coincidence.”

O Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? You have struck them down, but they felt no anguish; you have consumed them, but they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to repent.

As for the scoundrel— his devices are evil; he plans wicked schemes to ruin the poor with lying words, even when the plea of the needy is right.

And the king said to the guard who stood about him,“ Turn and kill the priests of the Lord, because their hand also is with David, and they knew that he fled and did not disclose it to me.” But the servants of the king would not put out their hand to strike the priests of the Lord.Then the king said to Doeg,“ You turn and strike the priests.” And Doeg the Edomite turned and struck down the priests, and he killed on that day eighty-five persons who wore the linen ephod.And Nob, the city of the priests, he put to the sword; both man and woman, child and infant, ox, donkey and sheep, he put to the sword.

They answered him,“ Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them,“ I am he.” Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them.When Jesus said to them,“ I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.So he asked them again,“ Whom do you seek?” And they said,“ Jesus of Nazareth.”Jesus answered,“ I told you that I am he. So, if you seek me, let these men go.”This was to fulfill the word that he had spoken:“ Of those whom you gave me I have lost not one.”Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant and cut off his right ear.( The servant’s name was Malchus.)So Jesus said to Peter,“ Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?”So the band of soldiers and their captain and the officers of the Jews arrested Jesus and bound him.

But on the next day all the congregation of the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and against Aaron, saying,“ You have killed the people of the Lord.”

saying,“ What shall we do with these men? For that a notable sign has been performed through them is evident to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.But in order that it may spread no further among the people, let us warn them to speak no more to anyone in this name.”

O Lord, your hand is lifted up, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people, and be ashamed. Let the fire for your adversaries consume them.

Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking him as they beat him.They also blindfolded him and kept asking him,“ Prophesy! Who is it that struck you?”

Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men.

If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked.
