是施濟之職、不第補聖徒不足、益令人徧謝上帝、

This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.

Your gifts meet the needs of the Lord’s people. And that’s not all. Your gifts also cause many people to thank God.

For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God.

So two good things will result from this ministry of giving— the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God.

若有人擁有斯世之財富、見其兄弟有急、而閉塞其同情之心、則安得有天主之愛德、存於其衷乎。

兄弟乎、或曰我有信德；苟無善行、亦有何益？徒信詎有濟乎？設有兄弟或姊妹衣食匱乏、而爾謂之曰：『安心以去、吾信汝必得溫飽；』而不給以切身所需之物、則亦何所裨益。

如今予已綽綽有餘；蓋爾托伊巴弗提所賜多珍、悉已謹領；此不惟使予裕如、即在天主臺前、亦猶一瓣心香、無瑕之牲、焉有不蒙悅納者乎。吾知天主亦必因基督耶穌、按其無窮之蘊藏、日新之光榮饜飫爾之心願也。

吾於祈禱中、未嘗不以爾為念、且為致謝天主。蓋爾之確信吾主耶穌、篤愛眾聖、時有所聞；行見爾之信德、發為妙果、令人景仰、而翕然歸依基督。仁愛如兄、實令吾歡忭鼓舞、情不自禁；即諸聖之心、亦因兄而獲浣慰焉。

彼等且再三懇求吾儕、准其同享賑濟聖徒之特恩；

伊巴弗提2:25「伊巴弗提」見宗徒大事錄第二十章第四節。致伊法所人書第六章第二十一節及致歌羅森人書第四章第七節。與予同勞共伍、予甚愛之、且原為爾之所遣、以慰我之勞者、故特率先派其就爾。

其實關於周濟聖徒之事、應無須吾之喋喋也。

亦曰平均而已矣。此時以爾之有餘、補彼之不足；將來可以彼之有餘、補爾之不足；亦曰平均而已矣。經云：『多穫者無所餘、少穫者無所缺、』此之謂也。

還望爾等亦為吾儕祈禱、庶幾吾儕因眾兄弟之代求而獲得之福惠乃成為眾口稱謝之因緣。
