The old way, with laws etched in stone, led to death, though it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away.

如果，那以條文刻在石版上、屬死亡的服事工作尚且帶有榮光——以致以色列子民因為摩西臉上那漸漸消失的榮光，不能注視他的臉——

夫致死之役、文鐫諸石、尚以榮而成、因摩西之榮、以色列人不能注視其面、此榮乃暫耳、

昔摩西面暫榮、以色列人不能注目視彼、夫以舊典致死之法鐫諸石、其榮且如此、

昔摩西之面有榮、其榮雖暫而將廢、以色列人不能注目觀之、致死之儀文、鐫於石版者、其役尚有此榮、

夫以肅殺之文字、勒之於石、供其役者、且有盛極一時之殊榮、甚至摩西面上光采煥發、非義塞子孫所得而直視焉；

Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was,

The Law was written in letters on stone. Even though it was a way of serving God, it led to death. But even that way of serving God came with glory. The glory lasted for only a short time. Even so, the people of Israel couldn’t look at Moses’ face very long.

Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses’ face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end,

Now if the ministry that brought death, chiseled in letters on stones, came with glory, so that the Israelites were not able to gaze steadily at Moses’s face because of its glory, which was set aside,

But if the ministry of death, engraved in letters on stones, came with glory so that the sons of Israel could not look intently at the face of Moses because of the glory of his face, fading as it was,

But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away,

But if the ministration of death, written, and engraven on stones, came with glory, so that the children of Israel could not look stedfastly upon the face of Moses for the glory of his face; which glory was passing away:

Now if the ministry of death, chiseled in letters on stones, came with glory, so that the Israelites were not able to look directly at Moses’ face because of the glory from his face— a fading glory—

But if the ministration of death, written[ and] engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which[ glory] was to be done away:

But if the ministry that produced death– carved in letters on stone tablets– came with glory, so that the Israelites could not keep their eyes fixed on the face of Moses because of the glory of his face( a glory which was made ineffective),

But if the service of death, written engraved on stones, came with glory, so that the children of Israel could not look steadfastly on the face of Moses for the glory of his face, which was passing away,

For Christ has already accomplished the purpose for which the law was given. As a result, all who believe in him are made right with God.

If the old way, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right with God!In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming glory of the new way.So if the old way, which has been replaced, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new, which remains forever!

But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless.

Clearly, you are a letter from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you. This“ letter” is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts.

Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Come up to me on the mountain. Stay there, and I will give you the tablets of stone on which I have inscribed the instructions and commands so you can teach the people.”

When the Lord finished speaking with Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant, written by the finger of God.

and I died. So I discovered that the law’s commands, which were supposed to bring life, brought spiritual death instead.

And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was transformed, and his clothes became dazzling white.Suddenly, two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared and began talking with Jesus.They were glorious to see. And they were speaking about his exodus from this world, which was about to be fulfilled in Jerusalem.

For the law always brings punishment on those who try to obey it.( The only way to avoid breaking the law is to have no law to break!)

At this point everyone in the high council stared at Stephen, because his face became as bright as an angel’s.

“ At that time the Lord said to me,‘ Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones. Also make a wooden Ark— a sacred chest to store them in. Come up to me on the mountain,and I will write on the tablets the same words that were on the ones you smashed. Then place the tablets in the Ark.’“ So I made an Ark of acacia wood and cut two stone tablets like the first two. Then I went up the mountain with the tablets in my hand.Once again the Lord wrote the Ten Commandments on the tablets and gave them to me. They were the same words the Lord had spoken to you from the heart of the fire on the day you were assembled at the foot of the mountain.

He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.

“ So while the mountain was blazing with fire I turned and came down, holding in my hands the two stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant.

I love God’s law with all my heart.

Then Moses turned and went down the mountain. He held in his hands the two stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant. They were inscribed on both sides, front and back.These tablets were God’s work; the words on them were written by God himself.

He proclaimed his covenant— the Ten Commandments— which he commanded you to keep, and which he wrote on two stone tablets.

When they came near the camp, Moses saw the calf and the dancing, and he burned with anger. He threw the stone tablets to the ground, smashing them at the foot of the mountain.

And the Lord God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.

But still, the law itself is holy, and its commands are holy and right and good.But how can that be? Did the law, which is good, cause my death? Of course not! Sin used what was good to bring about my condemnation to death. So we can see how terrible sin really is. It uses God’s good commands for its own evil purposes.So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin.

This happened when I was on the mountain receiving the tablets of stone inscribed with the words of the covenant that the Lord had made with you. I was there for forty days and forty nights, and all that time I ate no food and drank no water.The Lord gave me the two tablets on which God had written with his own finger all the words he had spoken to you from the heart of the fire when you were assembled at the mountain.“ At the end of the forty days and nights, the Lord handed me the two stone tablets inscribed with the words of the covenant.

Moses remained there on the mountain with the Lord forty days and forty nights. In all that time he ate no bread and drank no water. And the Lord wrote the terms of the covenant— the Ten Commandments— on the stone tablets.When Moses came down Mount Sinai carrying the two stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant, he wasn’t aware that his face had become radiant because he had spoken to the Lord.So when Aaron and the people of Israel saw the radiance of Moses’ face, they were afraid to come near him.But Moses called out to them and asked Aaron and all the leaders of the community to come over, and he talked with them.Then all the people of Israel approached him, and Moses gave them all the instructions the Lord had given him on Mount Sinai.When Moses finished speaking with them, he covered his face with a veil.But whenever he went into the Tent of Meeting to speak with the Lord, he would remove the veil until he came out again. Then he would give the people whatever instructions the Lord had given him,and the people of Israel would see the radiant glow of his face. So he would put the veil over his face until he returned to speak with the Lord.

Then the Lord told Moses,“ Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones. I will write on them the same words that were on the tablets you smashed.

Oh, how I love your instructions! I think about them all day long.

We are not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so the people of Israel would not see the glory, even though it was destined to fade away.But the people’s minds were hardened, and to this day whenever the old covenant is being read, the same veil covers their minds so they cannot understand the truth. And this veil can be removed only by believing in Christ.

O Lord, I have longed for your rescue, and your instructions are my delight.

The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living.

In that room were a gold incense altar and a wooden chest called the Ark of the Covenant, which was covered with gold on all sides. Inside the Ark were a gold jar containing manna, Aaron’s staff that sprouted leaves, and the stone tablets of the covenant.

“ You came down at Mount Sinai and spoke to them from heaven. You gave them regulations and instructions that were just, and decrees and commands that were good.

And what great nation has decrees and regulations as righteous and fair as this body of instructions that I am giving you today?

“ The Lord spoke these words to all of you assembled there at the foot of the mountain. He spoke with a loud voice from the heart of the fire, surrounded by clouds and deep darkness. This was all he said at that time, and he wrote his words on two stone tablets and gave them to me.
