蓋吾深恐爾我相見之時、爾不能副我之望、我亦不能副爾之望；又恐爾中有鬥爭、嫉妒、忿怒、樹黨、誹謗、隱刺、傲慢、紛亂等事；

For I am afraid that when I come I may not find you as I want you to be, and you may not find me as you want me to be. I fear that there may be discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder.

For I am afraid that somehow when I come I will not find you what I wish, and you will find me not what you wish. I am afraid that somehow there may be quarreling, jealousy, intense anger, selfish ambition, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorder.

For I am afraid that by any means, when I come, I might find you not the way I want to, and that I might be found by you as you don’t desire, that by any means there would be strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, slander, whisperings, proud thoughts, or riots,

They are filled with all unrighteousness, evil, greed, and wickedness. They are full of envy, murder, quarrels, deceit, and malice. They are gossips,

For it has been reported to me about you, my brothers, by members of Chloe’s household, that there is rivalry among you.

So rid yourselves of all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all slander.

But if you bite and devour one another, watch out, or you will be consumed by one another.

All who hate me whisper together about me; they plan to harm me.

In fact, we rejoice when we are weak and you are strong. We also pray that you become fully mature.This is why I am writing these things while absent, that when I am there I will not use severity, in keeping with the authority the Lord gave me for building up and not for tearing down.

Now, brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the saying:“ Nothing beyond what is written.” The purpose is that none of you will be inflated with pride in favor of one person over another.For who makes you so superior? What do you have that you didn’t receive? If, in fact, you did receive it, why do you boast as if you hadn’t received it?You are already full! You are already rich! You have begun to reign as kings without us— and I wish you did reign, so that we could also reign with you!

I call on God as a witness, on my life, that it was to spare you that I did not come to Corinth.I do not mean that we have control of your faith, but we are workers with you for your joy, because you stand by faith.In fact, I made up my mind about this: I would not come to you on another painful visit.For if I cause you pain, then who will cheer me other than the one being hurt by me?I wrote this very thing so that when I came I wouldn’t have pain from those who ought to give me joy, because I am confident about all of you that my joy will also be yours.For I wrote to you with many tears out of an extremely troubled and anguished heart— not that you should be hurt, but that you should know the abundant love I have for you.

since God is not a God of disorder but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,

Now some are inflated with pride, as though I were not coming to you.But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I will know not the talk but the power of those who are inflated with pride.For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.What do you want? Should I come to you with a rod, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?

Therefore, to have legal disputes against one another is already a moral failure for you. Why not rather put up with injustice? Why not rather be cheated?Instead, you act unjustly and cheat— and you do this to believers!

Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity,idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions,envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I tell you about these things in advance— as I told you before— that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

All bitterness, anger and wrath, shouting and slander must be removed from you, along with all malice.And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.

But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t brag and deny the truth.Such wisdom does not come from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.For where envy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every kind of evil.

For though I am absent in body but present in spirit, I have already decided about the one who has done this thing as though I were present.When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus with my spirit and with the power of our Lord Jesus,turn that one over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord.

because you are still fleshly. For since there is envy and strife among you, are you not fleshly and living like unbelievers?For whenever someone says,“ I’m with Paul,” and another,“ I’m with Apollos,” are you not unspiritual people?

What is the source of wars and fights among you? Don’t they come from the cravings that are at war within you?You desire and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. You do not have because you do not ask.You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your evil desires.Adulteresses! Don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? So whoever wants to be the world’s friend becomes God’s enemy.Or do you think it’s without reason the Scripture says that the Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously?

We must not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

For if I boast some more about our authority, which the Lord gave for building you up and not for tearing you down, I am not ashamed.I don’t want to seem as though I am trying to terrify you with my letters.

I beg you that when I am present I will not need to be bold with the confidence by which I plan to challenge certain people who think we are behaving in an unspiritual way.

A contrary man spreads conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.

But if anyone wants to argue about this, we have no other custom, nor do the churches of God.Now in giving the following instruction I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better but for the worse.For to begin with, I hear that when you come together as a church there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.There must, indeed, be factions among you, so that those who are approved may be recognized among you.

These people are discontented grumblers, walking according to their desires; their mouths utter arrogant words, flattering people for their own advantage.

And we are ready to punish any disobedience, once your obedience has been confirmed.

I fear that when I come my God will again humiliate me in your presence, and I will grieve for many who sinned before and have not repented of the moral impurity, sexual immorality, and promiscuity they practiced.

For by uttering boastful, empty words, they seduce, with fleshly desires and debauchery, people who have barely escaped from those who live in error.

Did the word of God originate from you, or did it come to you only?If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual, he should recognize that what I write to you is the Lord’s command.

I gave a warning when I was present the second time, and now I give a warning while I am absent to those who sinned before and to all the rest: If I come again, I will not be lenient,
