吾呼天主為證、吾之所以未來格林多者、乃為爾等着想、不欲予爾等以難堪耳。

I call God as my witness— and I stake my life on it— that it was in order to spare you that I did not return to Corinth.

I call God to be my witness. May he take my life if I’m lying. I wanted to spare you, so I didn’t return to Corinth.

But I call God to witness against me— it was to spare you that I refrained from coming again to Corinth.

Now I call upon God as my witness that I am telling the truth. The reason I didn’t return to Corinth was to spare you from a severe rebuke.

I call on God as a witness, on my life, that it was to spare you that I did not come to Corinth.

But I call God as witness to my soul, that it was to spare you that I did not come again to Corinth.

Moreover I call God as witness against my soul, that to spare you I came no more to Corinth.

But I call God for a witness upon my soul, that to spare you I forbare to come unto Corinth.

I call on God as a witness, on my life, that it was to spare you that I did not come to Corinth.

Now I appeal to God as my witness, that to spare you I did not come again to Corinth.

But I call God for a witness to my soul, that I didn’t come to Corinth to spare you.

For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.

What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and[ in] the spirit of meekness?

I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which heretofore have sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not spare:

Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction.

For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God[ is] witness:

And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he[ is] Christ’s, even so[ are] we Christ’s.For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.For[ his] letters, say they,[ are] weighty and powerful; but[ his] bodily presence[ is] weak, and[ his] speech contemptible.Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such[ will we be] also in deed when we are present.

Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth.

For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.

For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and[ that] I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest[ there be] debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:

The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore, knoweth that I lie not.

But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is[ the joy] of you all.

To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

But I beseech[ you], that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.

I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,

Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

But[ as] God[ is] true, our word toward you was not yea and nay.
