But Solomon did not make slaves of the Israelites for his work; they were his fighting men, commanders of his captains, and commanders of his chariots and charioteers.

如宗族貧乏、自鬻於爾、勿視若奴、當偕爾居、如傭人旅人然、供爾役事、以待禧年、屆期、彼及子女、必去爾家、仍歸其所、復得前人遺業。昔我導以色列族出埃及、為我臣僕、故不得鬻為賤役、勿治以嚴、宜畏爾之上帝。異邦之民、來自四方者、可購為僕婢。外人旅於爾中、生於爾地者、可購而得之、遺於子孫、恆為爾僕、惟以色列人為爾宗族、勿治以嚴。

惟在上之耶路撒冷不為奴、我眾之母也、

曰、既欲立王、治理爾曹、試陳其例。王必取爾子、使御車服馬、趨承於前者有之、立為千夫長、五十夫長者有之、使耕田畝、穫其所產、作戰具、製車器者、亦有之。
