如在敵人擄之之地、盡心盡意歸向主、向其故土、即主所賜其列祖之地、與主所選之邑、及我為主名所建之殿、祈禱於主、

and if they turn back to you with all their heart and soul in the land of their captivity where they were taken, and pray toward the land you gave their ancestors, toward the city you have chosen and toward the temple I have built for your Name;

耶和华说：“现在，你们要禁食、哭泣、哀号，全心回转归向我。”你们要撕心般地悔改，而不是撕裂衣服。归向你们的上帝耶和华吧，因为祂有恩典和怜悯，不轻易发怒，有无限的慈爱，不忍心降灾祸。

以色列啊，你被自己的罪恶绊倒了，归向你的上帝耶和华吧！你要归向耶和华，向祂忏悔说：“求你赦免我们的罪，施恩悦纳我们，好叫我们以赞美为祭献给你！我们不再向亚述求救，不再依靠战马，也不再称自己所造的神像为我们的上帝。耶和华啊，只有在你那里，孤儿才能得到怜悯。”耶和华说：“我要医治他们的叛道，心甘情愿地爱他们，因为我的怒气已经转离他们。

我便禁食，身披麻衣，头蒙灰尘，向主上帝祷告祈求。我向我的上帝耶和华祷告、认罪，说：“主啊，你是伟大而可畏的上帝，你向那些爱你、遵守你诫命的人信守你的慈爱之约。

那时，你们必呼求我，向我祷告，我也必垂听。你们寻求我，就必寻见。只要你们全心寻求我，我必让你们寻见。这是耶和华说的。我必把你们从流放之地招聚起来，使你们回到故土。这是耶和华说的。

但以理知道王签署禁令后，就回到家里。他楼上的窗户朝向耶路撒冷，他像往常一样每日三次跪下向上帝祷告、感恩。

归向你们的上帝耶和华，你们及子孙照我今天的吩咐全心全意地听从祂的话，祂必改变你们被掳的境遇，怜悯你们，把你们从祂驱逐你们去的列国招聚回来。即使你们被驱逐到天涯，你们的上帝耶和华也会把你们带回来，带到你们祖先的土地上，使你们拥有那片土地，比你们祖先更加人丁兴旺、繁荣昌盛。你们的上帝耶和华要洁净你们和你们子孙的心，好让你们全心全意地爱祂，并且存活。

所以，耶和华就差遣亚述王的将领来攻击他们，他们捉住玛拿西，用钩子钩着他，用铜链锁着他押往巴比伦。在困苦中，玛拿西祈求他的上帝耶和华的帮助，并且在他祖先的上帝面前极其谦卑。耶和华应允他的祷告，垂听他的恳求，使他返回耶路撒冷继续做王。玛拿西这才明白耶和华是上帝。
