耶和華說：「約西亞的兒子猶大王約雅敬啊，你有禍了！你以不公不義的手段建造宮廷殿宇，不給工人發工錢。你說要為自己建造宏偉的宮殿、寬敞的房間。你安上窗戶，鑲上香柏木，塗上紅漆。難道你大肆使用香柏木就能顯出你做王的氣派嗎？你父親也吃也喝，但他秉公行義，所以他凡事順利；他為困苦和貧窮的人伸冤，所以他凡事順利。這才是真正認識我。這是耶和華說的。可是，你一心貪圖不義之財，濫殺無辜，橫徵暴斂。」因此，論到猶大王約西亞的兒子約雅敬，耶和華說：「沒有人會為他哀悼說，『唉，我的弟兄啊！唉，我的姊妹啊！』沒有人會為他哀悼說，『唉，主人啊！唉，他的尊榮！』你必像死驢一樣被拖到耶路撒冷的城門外，曝屍荒野。」

王把耶利米口述、巴錄記錄的卷軸燒掉後，耶和華對耶利米說：「你再拿一卷軸，把猶大王約雅敬先前燒毀的卷軸上的話寫下來。論到猶大王約雅敬，你要這樣寫，『耶和華說，你把卷軸燒掉，還說為什麼上面寫著巴比倫王必來毀滅這地方和其中的人畜。所以耶和華說，猶大王約雅敬啊，你的子孫沒有一人能登大衛的寶座，你的屍體必被棄之荒野，遭受烈日的暴曬和夜霜的侵襲。我要因你、你後裔和你臣僕的罪惡而懲罰你們。因為你們不聽我的警告，我要給你們以及耶路撒冷和猶大的居民降下我說過的災禍。』」於是，耶利米又拿了一個卷軸，交給尼利亞的兒子書記巴錄，他按耶利米的口述，把猶大王約雅敬燒毀的那卷軸上的話都記下來，還增添了許多類似的話。
