「從猶大王亞們的兒子約西亞執政第十三年，到今天已有二十三年。在這期間，我不斷把耶和華對我說的話傳給你們，你們卻充耳不聞。耶和華屢次差遣祂的僕人——眾先知警告你們，你們卻充耳不聞，毫不理會。

我對你們的所作所為一再提出警告，你們卻充耳不聞；我呼喚你們，你們卻不回應。這是耶和華說的。

從你們的祖先離開埃及那天起，一直到今天，我日復一日地差遣我的僕人——眾先知到你們那裡，

耶穌快到耶路撒冷時，看見那城就哀哭，說：「今天你若知道那能帶給你平安的事就好了！可惜這事現在是隱藏的，你看不見！因為有一天敵人要在你周圍築起壁壘把你團團圍住，四面攻擊你。他們要把你夷為平地，毀滅你城牆裡的兒女，不會留下兩塊疊在一起的石頭，因為你沒有認識到上帝眷顧你的時刻。」

我屢次差遣我的僕人——眾先知警告他們不要再做令我深惡痛絕的事，他們卻毫不理會，不肯改掉向假神燒香的惡行。

不聽從我屢次派我的僕人——眾先知傳給你們的話，

耶和華因為與亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各所立的約，就恩待以色列人，憐憫、眷顧他們，至今仍不願滅絕他們，沒有把他們從自己面前趕走。

他們離棄他們祖先的上帝耶和華的殿，去供奉亞舍拉神像及其他偶像。因他們所犯的罪，上帝的烈怒臨到猶大和耶路撒冷。但耶和華仍然派先知到他們中間，引導他們歸向祂。先知警告他們，他們卻不聽。上帝的靈感動了耶何耶大祭司的兒子撒迦利亞，他便站在高處對民眾說：「耶和華上帝這樣說，『你們為什麼違反耶和華的誡命，以致不得亨通呢？既然你們背棄我，我也必離棄你們。』」他們想謀害撒迦利亞，就照著王的命令，在耶和華殿的院子裡用石頭打死了他。

以色列人除掉了他們的外邦神像，轉而事奉耶和華。耶和華不忍再看以色列人受苦。

耶和華藉著祂的眾先知和先見警告以色列人和猶大人說：「你們要離開惡道，遵守我的誡命和律例，即我吩咐你們祖先遵守並藉著我的僕人——眾先知傳給你們的律法。」

耶和華警告瑪拿西和他的百姓，他們卻不肯聽從。

以法蓮啊，我怎能捨棄你？以色列啊，我怎能棄絕你？我怎能使你的下場如押瑪？我怎能對待你如對待洗扁？我的心意改變，我滿懷憐愛。
