利未人見銀子多了，把櫃子抬到王所派的官長面前；這時王的書記和祭司長的助手就會來把櫃子倒空，然後放回原處。日日都是這樣做，積蓄的銀子很多。王與耶何耶大把銀子交給耶和華殿裏辦事的人，他們就雇了石匠、木匠重修耶和華的殿，又雇了鐵匠、銅匠整修耶和華的殿。工人做工，修理工程在他們手中漸漸完成，他們將神的殿修理得如同從前一樣，非常堅固。他們做完了，就把多餘的銀子拿到王與耶何耶大面前，用以製造耶和華殿供奉所用的器皿和調羹，以及金銀的器皿。耶何耶大在世的日子，眾人經常在耶和華殿裏獻燔祭。

他們把奉到耶和華殿的銀子運出來的時候，希勒家祭司發現了耶和華藉摩西所傳的律法書。希勒家對沙番書記說：「我在耶和華殿裏發現了律法書。」希勒家把書遞給沙番。

王吩咐希勒家大祭司和副祭司，以及把守殿門的，把那些為巴力和亞舍拉，以及天上萬象所造的器皿，都從耶和華殿裏搬出來，在耶路撒冷外汲淪的田間燒了，把灰拿到伯特利去。

末了，弟兄們，凡是真實的、凡是可敬的、凡是公義的、凡是清潔的、凡是可愛的、凡是有美名的，若有甚麼德行，若有甚麼稱讚，你們都要留意。

這一切事都完畢以後，在那裏的以色列眾人就到猶大的城鎮，打碎柱像，砍斷亞舍拉，又在猶大、便雅憫、以法蓮、瑪拿西遍地把丘壇和祭壇完全拆毀。於是以色列眾人各回各城，各歸自己產業的地去了。

「你上到希勒家大祭司那裏，請他把奉獻到耶和華殿的銀子，就是門口的守衛從百姓中收來的銀子，結算清楚，交在管理耶和華殿督工的手裏，由他們支付給在耶和華殿裏做工的人，好修理殿的破壞之處，就是木匠、工人和瓦匠，又買木料和鑿成的石頭，來整修殿宇。但他們不用跟這些經手接受銀子的人算帳，因為這些人辦事誠實。」

王吩咐希勒家與沙番的兒子亞希甘、米迦的兒子亞比頓、沙番書記和王的臣僕亞撒雅，說：

沙番書記又向王報告說：「希勒家祭司遞給我一卷書。」沙番就在王面前朗讀那書。

於是，希勒家和王的人都去見戶勒大女先知，她是掌管禮服的沙龍的妻子，沙龍是哈斯拉的孫子，特瓦的兒子。戶勒大住在耶路撒冷第二區。他們向她說明來意。
