智慧胜过兵器，但一个罪人却能破坏许多善事。

从前，犹大各王任命祭司在犹大各城和耶路撒冷周围的丘坛烧香。现在，约西亚除掉那些祭司，又除掉向巴力、日、月、星辰及天上万象烧香的祭司。他将亚舍拉神像从耶和华的殿里搬到耶路撒冷城外汲沦溪旁烧掉，磨成灰撒在平民的坟墓上。

当你们举目观看你们的上帝耶和华赐给天下万民的日、月、星辰等天上万象时，不要受诱惑去跪拜、供奉它们。

以色列人做耶和华视为恶的事，祭拜巴力。他们背弃了领他们祖先离开埃及的上帝耶和华，追随、祭拜邻邦的各种神明，因而惹耶和华发怒。他们背弃耶和华，去祭拜巴力和亚斯她录。

这希西迦不是曾经废掉耶和华的丘坛和祭坛，吩咐犹大人和耶路撒冷人只在一个祭坛前敬拜，在祭坛上烧香吗？

他们在各高岗上、树荫下为自己建造丘坛，竖立神柱和亚舍拉神像，

他们的儿女没有忘记绿树下、高岗上、

抛散在他们昔日恋慕、供奉、追随、求问、祭拜的日月星辰之下，无人收殓和埋葬，他们好像地上的粪便。

因此，上帝转脸不顾他们，任由他们祭拜日月星辰，正如先知书的记载，“‘以色列家啊，在旷野的四十年间，你们向我献过祭物和供品吗？

他重建他父亲希西迦拆毁的丘坛，效法以色列王亚哈为巴力筑造祭坛，制造亚舍拉神像，并且祭拜和供奉天上的万象。

谁知道那人是智者还是愚人呢？然而，他却要接管我在日光之下用智慧辛勤经营的产业。这也是虚空。

他从耶和华的殿门口除掉犹大各王献给太阳神的马匹，这些马匹在太监拿单·米勒房子旁边的院子里。他烧掉了那些献给太阳神的战车。

反而步以色列诸王的后尘，又铸造巴力神像。他不但在欣嫩子谷烧香，还效法耶和华在以色列人面前赶走的外族人的可憎行径，焚烧自己的儿子作祭物。他还在丘坛、山冈和绿树下献祭烧香。
