他恨不得拿豬所吃的豆莢充飢，也沒有人給他。他醒悟過來，就說：『我父親有多少的雇工，口糧有餘，我倒在這裏餓死嗎？我要起來，到我父親那裏去，向他說：父親！我得罪了天，又得罪了你；

務要在主面前自卑，主就必叫你們升高。

我聽見以法蓮為自己悲歎說：你責罰我，我便受責罰，像不慣負軛的牛犢一樣。求你使我回轉，我便回轉，因為你是耶和華－我的神。我回轉以後就真正懊悔；受教以後就拍腿歎息；我因擔當幼年的凌辱就抱愧蒙羞。耶和華說：以法蓮是我的愛子嗎？是可喜悅的孩子嗎？我每逢責備他，仍深顧念他；所以我的心腸戀慕他；我必要憐憫他。

所以，耶和華－他的神將他交在亞蘭王手裏。亞蘭王打敗他，擄了他許多的民，帶到大馬士革去。神又將他交在以色列王手裏，以色列王向他大行殺戮。

並要在患難之日求告我；我必搭救你，你也要榮耀我。

你們剩下的人必因自己的罪孽和祖宗的罪孽在仇敵之地消滅。「他們要承認自己的罪和他們祖宗的罪，就是干犯我的那罪，並且承認自己行事與我反對，我所以行事與他們反對，把他們帶到仇敵之地。那時，他們未受割禮的心若謙卑了，他們也服了罪孽的刑罰，我就要記念我與雅各所立的約，與以撒所立的約，與亞伯拉罕所立的約，並要記念這地。

我告訴你們，這人回家去比那人倒算為義了；因為，凡自高的，必降為卑；自卑的，必升為高。」有人抱着自己的嬰孩來見耶穌，要他摸他們；門徒看見就責備那些人。

摩西、亞倫就進去見法老，對他說：「耶和華－希伯來人的神這樣說：『你在我面前不肯自卑要到幾時呢？容我的百姓去，好事奉我。

你們年幼的，也要順服年長的。就是你們眾人也都要以謙卑束腰，彼此順服；因為神阻擋驕傲的人，賜恩給謙卑的人。所以，你們要自卑，服在神大能的手下，到了時候，他必叫你們升高。

瑪拿西其餘的事和禱告他神的話，並先見奉耶和華－以色列神的名警戒他的言語，都寫在以色列諸王記上。他的禱告，與神怎樣應允他，他未自卑以前的罪愆過犯，並在何處建築邱壇，設立亞舍拉和雕刻的偶像，都寫在何賽的書上。

主對他說：「起來！往直街去，在猶大的家裏，訪問一個大數人，名叫掃羅。他正禱告，

不在耶和華面前像他父瑪拿西自卑。這亞們所犯的罪越犯越大。
