以色列王以拉子何西三年、猶大王亞哈士子希西家即位、乃撒迦利亞女亞比所出、年二十有五、在耶路撒冷為王、凡歷二十九年、行善於耶和華前、於祖大闢所為、是則是效、廢諸崇坵、毀其像、斫其偶、昔摩西所作之銅蛇、迄今以色列人焚香以奉事。希西家曰、此無非為尼忽旦耳、遂碎之。惟以色列族之上帝耶和華是賴、自古迄今、至於後世、在猶大列王間、殆亦未有若是之甚。希西家恆從耶和華、守其所諭摩西之禁令、無所違逆。耶和華祐之、不論所往、無不亨通、故不歸於亞述王統轄、亦不臣事。非利士人在迦薩四境、自戍樓至於邑垣、俱為希西家所陷。以色列王、以拉子何西七年、即希西家王四年、亞述王撒馬尼斯環攻撒馬利亞、越至三年、即以色列王何西九年、希西家王六年、其城乃陷、亞述王虜以色列族至亞述、置於坷散河旁之哈臘、哈拔、及米太族諸邑。以色列族不遵其上帝耶和華命、背其約、不聽從其僕摩西所傳之禁令、故遘此災。○希西家王十四年、亞述王西拿基立攻陷猶大諸邑、猶大王希西家遣人至拉吉、見亞述王曰、我知罪矣、請勿侵我國、惟爾命是聽。亞述王責貢於猶大王希西家金四萬五千兩、銀四十五萬兩。希西家以耶和華殿、與王宮府庫、所有之銀、悉以為饋、剝耶和華殿門之金、及自飾於殿柱者、俱饋亞述王。然亞述王遣大單、臘撒哩、臘沙基、統率大軍、自拉吉至耶路撒冷、而攻希西家王、漂工有田、田間有道、近上沼之溝、三帥既至、立於其側、呼王使出、其時理家事、希勒家子以利亞金、繕寫設拿、史官亞薩子約亞俱出。臘沙基曰、爾當告希西家、亞述大王云、爾誰恃、爾自以為智勇兼全、善於戰鬥、然爾何所恃而逆我乎。

希西家在猶大全地、悉循斯例、行善於耶和華前、真實無妄。在上帝殿供役事、遵律例、守禁令、崇上帝、皆誠心為之、爰得福祉。
