So Sennacherib went back to his own land in shame. He went into the temple of his god. There some of his own sons, the people closest to him, killed him with their swords.

And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, some of his own sons struck him down there with the sword.

當晚，耶和華的天使到亞述營中殺了十八萬五千人。人們清早起來，發現到處是屍體。亞述王西拿基立便拔營回國，住在尼尼微。一天，亞述王在他的神明尼斯洛的廟裡祭拜時，他的兩個兒子亞得米勒和沙利色用刀殺了他，逃往亞拉臘。他的另一個兒子以撒哈頓繼位。

唯有你當受敬畏。你發怒的時候，誰能在你面前站立呢？

希律沒有把榮耀歸給上帝，主的天使立刻懲罰他，他當場被蟲子咬死了。

傲慢帶來羞辱，謙卑者有智慧。

耶和華說：「我現在要施展大能，我必受尊崇。你們所謀的像糠秕，所行的如碎稭，毫無價值。你們的氣息會像火一樣燒滅你們自己。列邦必被燒成灰燼，好像割下的荊棘被火焚燒。」

亞摩斯的兒子以賽亞派人告訴希西迦：「以色列的上帝耶和華說，『我已經聽見你關於亞述王西拿基立的禱告。

祂挫敗首領的傲氣，世上的君王都敬畏祂。

我是耶和華，這就是我的名字。我不會把我的榮耀給假神，也不會把我當受的讚美給雕刻的偶像。

我的上帝差遣天使封住了獅子的口，不讓牠們傷害我，因為我在上帝面前是清白的。王啊，我在你面前也沒有過錯。」

他說，『我的臣僕都要做藩王！

你使你立的王大獲全勝，向你膏立的大衛及其後代廣施慈愛，直到永遠。

當天使準備伸手毀滅耶路撒冷的時候，耶和華心生憐憫，就對滅命天使說：「夠了，住手吧！」當時，耶和華的天使正站在耶布斯人亞勞拿的麥場上。

於是，耶和華的天使到亞述營中殺了十八萬五千人。人們清早起來，發現到處是屍體。亞述王西拿基立便拔營回國，住在尼尼微。有一天，他在廟中祭拜他的神明尼斯洛的時候，他兒子亞得米勒和沙利色用刀殺了他，然後逃往亞拉臘。他兒子以撒哈頓繼位。

耶和華必使人聽見祂威嚴的聲音，在憤怒、烈焰、暴雨、雷轟和冰雹中讓人看見祂降罰的臂膀。亞述人聽見耶和華的聲音必心驚膽戰，祂必用杖擊打他們。耶和華的刑杖每責打他們一下，祂的子民必擊鼓彈琴。祂必在戰場上揮手擊打他們。焚燒之地——陀斐特早已為亞述王預備好了，那裡又寬又深，堆著許多木柴，耶和華的氣必如同一股硫磺火點燃那些木柴。

亞摩斯的兒子以賽亞先知派人對希西迦說：「以色列的上帝耶和華說，『因為你就亞述王西拿基立的事向我禱告，

世界末日的時候也是這樣。天使必把惡人從義人中揀出來，丟在火爐裡，讓惡人在那裡哀哭切齒。

尼布甲尼撒說：「沙得拉、米煞、亞伯尼歌的上帝當受稱頌！祂差遣天使拯救那些信靠祂的僕人。他們無視王命，寧肯死也不供奉、祭拜其他神明。

我必使他的仇敵滿面羞愧，但他頭上的王冠必光芒四射。」

強敵被擄掠，他們倒地而亡，再也不能還手。

看啊，主——萬軍之耶和華要以大能削去樹枝。高大的樹必被斬斷，挺拔的大樹必被砍倒，茂密的樹林必被鐵斧砍掉，連黎巴嫩的大樹也要倒在全能的上帝面前。

你們即使依靠埃及的戰車和騎兵，又怎能打敗我主人的一個最小的將領呢？

驕橫是淪亡的前奏，狂傲是敗落的預兆。

地上的君王、顯貴、將領、富豪、有勢力的、一切奴隸和自由人都躲藏在山洞裡和岩穴間。他們哀求群山和岩石，說：「倒下來遮蓋我們，將我們藏起來吧！我們不敢面對寶座上的那位和羔羊的烈怒啊！

祂充滿智慧，能力無比，誰能抗拒祂還可平安無恙？

但你的眾仇敵必像纖細的塵埃一樣消散，眾多的殘暴之徒必如被風颳去的糠秕。突然，刹那之間，萬軍之耶和華必帶著雷轟、地震、巨響、旋風、暴風和烈火來臨。攻打、圍困耶路撒冷及其堡壘的各國軍隊必如夢幻，如夜間的異象一樣消失。他們好像饑餓的人夢中吃飯，醒來仍然饑餓；像口渴的人夢中喝水，醒來仍然渴得發昏。攻打錫安山的各國軍隊結局都必如此。」

因此，主——萬軍之耶和華必使亞述王強健的士兵疾病纏身，使火焰吞噬他的榮耀。以色列的光必成為火焰，他們的聖者必成為烈火，一日之間燒光亞述王的荊棘和蒺藜。他茂盛的樹林和肥美的田園必被徹底摧毀，猶如病人漸漸消亡。林中剩下的樹木稀少，連小孩子也能數清。

我又看見一位天使站在太陽裡，對空中飛翔的鳥大聲呼喚：「來吧！一起來參加上帝的盛宴，一同享用君王、將軍、勇士、馬匹、騎士、自由人、奴隸和尊卑老少的肉吧！」
