大衛問站在他旁邊的人說道：『若有人擊殺了這個非利士人，從以色列人身上除掉了羞辱，可以受到甚麼待遇呢？這沒受割禮的非利士人是誰啊？竟敢向永活的上帝罵陣啊？』

於是參謀長站着，用猶大語大聲喊叫說：『你們要聽大王亞述王的話。

那非利士人說：『我今天向以色列人罵陣；你們請派一個人到我這裏來，我們可以戰一戰。』
