Then Solomon began to build the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David. It was on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite, the place provided by David.

耶和華之使、命伽得告大闢曰、前往築臺、奉事耶和華、在耶布士人亞勞拿之穀場。

稱其地曰、耶和華必預備。越至於今、人常云、在耶和華山、必預備也。○

曰、爾嫡所出、惟一以撒、爾所鍾愛者、可攜之往摩哩地、在我所示之山、燔之以獻。○

大闢曰、耶和華上帝之殿、以色列族燔祭之壇、宜建於此。

以色列族出埃及後、四百八十年、所羅門即位之四年、西弗月、即二月、所羅門始建耶和華之殿。殿深六丈、廣二丈、高三丈、殿前之廊、廣同於殿、深約一丈、為殿作牖、閉以斜櫺。前後之殿、其四周附墻作臺、以建複樓、下臺廣五尺、中臺廣六尺、上臺廣七尺、殿外四周、相間以凹、使臺弗附於墻。建殿之石、鑿以預備、後舁以至、於是築垣之時、不聞椎斧鐵器之聲。中樓之門在殿右、自下至中、延及上樓、其梯曲折而登。建殿既畢、乃置棟梁、作板蓋其上、俱柏香木所製、以柏香木作臺、各高五尺、四周附殿。耶和華命所羅門曰、如爾循我禮儀、守我法度禁令、則昔所許爾父大闢者、我必踐言、爾所建之殿、我必居處、不厭棄我以色列族之民。

時伽得見大闢曰、往前築壇、奉事耶和華、在耶布士人亞勞拿之穀場。大闢依伽得之言、遵耶和華之命而行。亞勞拿遙見王與群臣咸至、遂出、伏地拜王、曰我主我王、蒞臨僕所、曷故。大闢曰、欲購穀場、以築祭壇、奉事耶和華、使疫止於民間。亞勞拿曰、我主我王、取所欲取、獻所欲獻、在此有牛、以為燔祭、亦有打穀之器、與牛軛為柴。亞勞拿以此物悉予王、慨然無吝色、曰、願爾之上帝耶和華悅爾。王曰、不然、我欲購之、以償其值、不欲不費貲財、而獻燔祭、奉吾之上帝耶和華。於是大闢以金二十有五、購穀場與牛。在彼築壇、奉事耶和華、獻燔祭及酬恩之祭於上、耶和華允所祈、恤其國民、瘟疫止息、不染於以色列族地。
