Although the Aramean army had come with only a few men, the Lord delivered into their hands a much larger army. Because Judah had forsaken the Lord, the God of their ancestors, judgment was executed on Joash.

The army of Aram had come with only a few men. But the Lord allowed them to win the battle over a much larger army. Judah had deserted the Lord, the God of their people. That’s why the Lord punished Joash.

Though the army of the Syrians had come with few men, the Lord delivered into their hand a very great army, because Judah had forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers. Thus they executed judgment on Joash.

「耶和華必使你在仇敵面前潰敗。你從一條路去攻擊他們，必從七條路逃跑。地上萬國必因你而驚駭。

一人叱喝，令千人逃跑，五人叱喝，你們都逃跑；以致剩下的如山頂的旗杆，如山岡上的大旗。

耶戶向亞哈家施行懲罰的時候，遇見猶大的眾領袖和亞哈謝的姪子們正服事亞哈謝，就把他們都殺了。

我要使刀劍臨到你們，報復你們的背約。你們若被趕入城中，我要降瘟疫在你們中間，把你們交在仇敵手中。

雖然無人追趕，他們卻要彼此絆倒，像逃避刀劍一樣。你們在仇敵面前必站立不住。

你們五個人要追趕一百人，一百人要追趕一萬人；仇敵必在你們面前倒在刀下。

你們即使擊敗與你們爭戰的迦勒底全軍，他們當中剩下受傷的人也必各自從帳棚裏起來，用火焚燒這城。』」

那時，神的靈感動耶何耶大的兒子撒迦利亞祭司，他就站在上面，對百姓說：「神如此說：『你們為何干犯耶和華的誡命，以致不得亨通呢？因為你們離棄耶和華，所以他也離棄你們。』」

若非他們的磐石賣了他們，若非耶和華交出他們，一人豈能追趕千人，二人焉能使萬人逃跑呢？

禍哉！亞述，我怒氣的棍！他們手中的杖是我的惱恨。我要差遣他攻擊褻瀆的國，吩咐他對付我所惱怒的民，搶走擄物，奪取掠物，將他們踐踏，如同街上的泥土一般。

所以你必在飢餓、乾渴、赤身、缺乏中事奉仇敵，那是耶和華派來攻擊你的。他必把鐵軛加在你的頸項上，直到把你除滅。

古實人和路比人的軍隊不是非常強大嗎？他們的戰車騎兵不是極多嗎？只因你仰賴耶和華，他就將他們交在你手裏。因為耶和華的眼目遍察全地，要堅固向他存純正之心的人。你在這事上行得愚昧；因此，以後你必有戰爭。」

他們從遠方來，從天邊來，耶和華和他惱恨的兵器要毀滅全地。

耶和華－我的神，我的聖者啊，你不是從亙古就有嗎？我們必不致死。耶和華啊，你派他為要行審判；磐石啊，你立他為要懲治人。

看哪，他們這樣回報我們，要來驅逐我們離開你賜給我們為業之地。我們的神啊，你不懲罰他們嗎？因為我們無力抵擋這來攻擊我們的大軍。我們不知道該怎麼做，我們的眼目單仰望你。」
