他們上來攻打猶大，侵入境內，掠去了王宮的一切財物，又擄去了他的眾子和妻妾；除了他最小的兒子約哈斯以外，沒有給他留下一個兒子。

亞哈謝的母親亞他利雅見自己的兒子死了，就起來殺盡猶大家中所有王族的後裔。

該隱對他的弟弟亞伯說：“我們到田間去吧。”﹙《馬索拉文本》缺“我們到田間去吧”一句，現參照其他抄本及古譯本補上。﹚，該隱就起來襲擊他的弟弟亞伯，把他殺了。

不要像該隱，他是屬於那惡者的，他又殺了自己的弟弟。為甚麼殺他呢？因為他自己的行為是惡的，弟弟的行為是義的。

這樣，神報應了亞比米勒向他父親所行的惡事，就是他殺了自己的兄弟七十個人。神也把示劍人的一切惡事，都報應在他們的頭上；耶路．巴力的兒子約坦的咒詛，也歸到他們身上。

耶戶討伐亞哈家的罪的時候，遇見了猶大的眾領袖和亞哈謝的兄弟的兒子，他們都是侍候亞哈謝的，耶戶把他們都殺了。
