亚撒呼求耶和华他的神说：“耶和华啊，惟有你能帮助软弱的，胜过强盛的。耶和华我们的神啊，求你帮助我们；因为我们仰赖你，奉你的名来攻击这大军。耶和华啊，你是我们的神，不要容人胜过你。”

艾城的人回头一看，不料，城中烟气冲天，他们就无力向左向右逃跑。那往旷野逃跑的百姓便转身攻击追赶他们的人。

车兵长看见约沙法便说，这必是以色列王，就转过去与他争战。约沙法一呼喊，耶和华就帮助他，神又感动他们离开他。

以色列众人都起来，在巴力他玛摆阵，以色列的伏兵从马利迦巴埋伏的地方冲上前去。有以色列人中的一万精兵，来到基比亚前接战，势派甚是凶猛；便雅悯人却不知道灾祸临近了。耶和华使以色列人杀败便雅悯人。那日，以色列人杀死便雅悯人二万五千一百，都是拿刀的。于是便雅悯人知道自己败了。先是以色列人；因为靠着在基比亚前所设的伏兵，就在便雅悯人面前诈败。伏兵急忙闯进基比亚，用刀杀死全城的人。以色列人预先同伏兵约定在城内放火，以烟气上腾为号。以色列人临退阵的时候，便雅悯人动手杀死以色列人，约有三十个，就说：“他们仍像前次被我们杀败了。”当烟气如柱从城中上腾的时候，便雅悯人回头观看，见全城的烟气冲天。以色列人又转身回来，便雅悯人就甚惊惶，因为看见灾祸临到自己了。他们在以色列人面前转身往旷野逃跑；以色列人在后面追杀。那从各城里出来的，也都夹攻杀灭他们。以色列人围绕便雅悯人，追赶他们，在他们歇脚之处、对着日出之地的基比亚践踏他们。

并要在患难之日求告我；我必搭救你，你也要荣耀我。”

亚扪人出来，在城门前摆阵；琐巴与利合的亚兰人、陀伯人，并玛迦人，另在郊野摆阵。约押看见敌人在他前后摆阵，就从以色列军中挑选精兵，使他们对着亚兰人摆阵。其余的兵交与他兄弟亚比筛，对着亚扪人摆阵。约押对亚比筛说：“亚兰人若强过我，你就来帮助我；亚扪人若强过你，我就去帮助你。我们都当刚强，为本国的民和神的城邑作大丈夫。愿耶和华凭他的意旨而行！”于是，约押和跟随他的人前进攻打亚兰人；亚兰人在约押面前逃跑。亚扪人见亚兰人逃跑，他们也在亚比筛面前逃跑进城。约押就离开亚扪人那里，回耶路撒冷去了。

你必不怕黑夜的惊骇，或是白日飞的箭，

法老临近的时候，以色列人举目看见埃及人赶来，就甚惧怕，向耶和华哀求。
