那些跟他一齊長大的少年人對他說：『這些人對王說：「你父親使我們的軛很重，你呢，你使那軛輕鬆些吧」：王要對他們這麼說：「我的小拇指比我父親的腰還粗呢。

偕彼同長之少者曰、斯民謂爾云、爾父使我負重軛、求為我輕之、可答之曰、我之小指、巨於我父之腰、

對曰、斯民曾言、爾父使眾負重軛、請爾輕之、爾則應之曰、我之小指、較父之身尤巨。

少者曰、斯民告王云、爾父使我負重軛、求為我輕之、王則如斯對之曰、我之小指、較父之腰尤大、

The young men who had grown up with him replied,“ The people have said to you,‘ Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but make our yoke lighter.’ Now tell them,‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.

The young men who had grown up with him gave their answer. They replied,“ The people have said to you,‘ Your father put a heavy load on our shoulders. Make it lighter.’ Now tell them,‘ My little finger is stronger than my father’s legs.

And the young men who had grown up with him said to him,“ Thus shall you speak to the people who said to you,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but you lighten it for us’; thus shall you say to them,‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s thighs.

The young men replied,“ This is what you should tell those complainers who want a lighter burden:‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist!

Then the young men who had grown up with him told him,“ This is what you should say to the people who said to you,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but you, make it lighter on us!’ This is what you should say to them:‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist!

The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying,“ This is what you should say to the people who spoke to you, saying:‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but you make it lighter for us!’ You should speak this way to them:‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist!

Then the young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying,“ Thus you should speak to the people who have spoken to you, saying,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but you make it lighter on us’— thus you shall say to them:‘ My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s waist!

And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.

Then the young men who had grown up with him told him,“ This is what you should say to the people who said to you,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but you, make it lighter on us!’ This is what you should say to them:‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.

And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou[ it] somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little[ finger] shall be thicker than my father’s loins.

The young advisers with whom Rehoboam had grown up said to him,“ Say this to these people who have said to you,‘ Your father made us work hard, but now lighten our burden’– say this to them:‘ I am a lot harsher than my father!

The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying,“ Thus you shall tell the people who spoke to you, saying,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter on us;’ thus you shall say to them,‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.

智慧人積存知識；愚妄人的口速致敗壞。

瑣安的官長極其愚昧，法老智慧的謀士籌劃愚謀；你們怎敢對法老說：「我是智慧人的子孫，是古代國王的後裔？」你的智慧人在哪裏？萬軍之耶和華向埃及所定的旨意，他們既然知道，就讓他們告訴你吧！瑣安的官長愚昧，挪弗的官長受蒙蔽；作埃及支派棟梁的，帶領埃及走錯了路。

通達人都憑知識行事；愚昧人張揚自己的愚昧。

愚昧人的嘴唇挑起爭端，一開口就招鞭打。愚昧人的口自取敗壞，他的嘴唇是自己生命的圈套。

那些與他一同長大的年輕人對他說：「這百姓對王說：『你父親使我們負重軛，求你給我們減輕一些。』王要對他們如此說：『我的小指頭比我父親的腰還粗呢！我父親使你們負重軛，現在我必使你們負更重的軛！我父親用鞭子懲罰你們，我要用蠍子懲罰你們！』」

人的高傲使自己蒙羞；心裏謙遜的，必得尊榮。

心中貪婪的，挑起爭端；倚靠耶和華的，必得豐裕。

沒有人能以智慧、聰明、謀略抵擋耶和華。

戶篩對押沙龍說：「亞希多弗這次所出的主意不好。」戶篩又說：「你知道，你父親和他的人都是勇士，他們心裏惱怒，如同田野中失去小熊的母熊一樣；而且你父親是個戰士，必不和百姓一同住宿。看哪，他現今或藏在一個坑中或在別處，若我們有人首先被殺，聽見的必說：『跟隨押沙龍的百姓被殺了。』雖有勇士膽大如獅子，他的心也必定融化，因為全以色列都知道你父親是英雄，跟隨他的人都是勇士。依我之計，要把如同海邊的沙那樣多的以色列眾人，從但直到別是巴，聚集到你這裏來，由你親自率領他們出戰。我們到他那裏，在任何地方遇見他，就突然臨到他，如同露水滴在泥土上。這樣，他和所有跟隨他的人，一個也不留。他若撤退到一座城，以色列眾人必帶繩子去那城，把城拉到河裏，甚至連一塊小石子也找不到。」

智慧人有所懼怕，就遠離惡事；愚昧人卻狂傲自恃。
