對曰、斯民曾言、爾父使眾負重軛、請爾輕之、爾則應之曰、我之小指、較父之身尤巨。

The young men who had grown up with him replied,“ The people have said to you,‘ Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but make our yoke lighter.’ Now tell them,‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.

The young men who had grown up with him gave their answer. They replied,“ The people have said to you,‘ Your father put a heavy load on our shoulders. Make it lighter.’ Now tell them,‘ My little finger is stronger than my father’s legs.

And the young men who had grown up with him said to him,“ Thus shall you speak to the people who said to you,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but you lighten it for us’; thus shall you say to them,‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s thighs.

The young men replied,“ This is what you should tell those complainers who want a lighter burden:‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist!

Then the young men who had grown up with him told him,“ This is what you should say to the people who said to you,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but you, make it lighter on us!’ This is what you should say to them:‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist!

The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying,“ This is what you should say to the people who spoke to you, saying:‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but you make it lighter for us!’ You should speak this way to them:‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist!

Then the young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying,“ Thus you should speak to the people who have spoken to you, saying,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but you make it lighter on us’— thus you shall say to them:‘ My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s waist!

And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.

Then the young men who had grown up with him told him,“ This is what you should say to the people who said to you,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but you, make it lighter on us!’ This is what you should say to them:‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.

And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou[ it] somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little[ finger] shall be thicker than my father’s loins.

The young advisers with whom Rehoboam had grown up said to him,“ Say this to these people who have said to you,‘ Your father made us work hard, but now lighten our burden’– say this to them:‘ I am a lot harsher than my father!

The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying,“ Thus you shall tell the people who spoke to you, saying,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter on us;’ thus you shall say to them,‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.

智慧人积存知识，愚妄人的口招致毁灭。

琐安的领袖非常愚昧，法老那些最有智慧的谋士所筹算的，都成为愚昧。你们怎能对法老说：“我是智慧人的儿子，是古代君王的后裔”呢？你的智慧人在哪里呢？万军之耶和华向埃及所定的旨意是怎样的？就让他们告诉你，使你知道吧！琐安的领袖都变为愚昧，挪弗的领袖都受了欺骗；那些在埃及支派中作房角石的，使埃及人走错了路。

精明的人都按知识行事，愚昧人却显露自己的愚妄。

愚昧人的嘴引起纷争，他的口招来责打。愚昧人的口自取灭亡，他的嘴唇是自己性命的网罗。

那些与他一同长大的年轻人回答他：“这民对王说：‘你父亲加重我们的重担，现在求你减轻我们的重担。’你要这样回答他们：‘我的小指头比我父亲的腰还粗！我父亲把一个重担加在你们身上，我要使你们负更重的重担；我父亲用鞭子责打你们，我要用蝎子鞭责打你们。’”

人的骄傲必使他卑微；心里谦卑的，必得尊荣。

贪心的人，必引起纷争；倚靠耶和华的，必得丰裕。

任何智慧、聪明、谋略都不能敌挡耶和华。

户筛回答押沙龙：“亚希多弗这次计划的谋略不好。”户筛又说：“你知道你父亲和那些跟随他的人都是勇士；他们心里正在恼怒，好像野地里丧子的母熊一样；并且你父亲是个战士，必不会与众人在一起住宿。现在他或躺在一个坑中，或在另一个地方，如果他首先攻击你的手下，听见的人就必说：‘跟从押沙龙的人被杀了！’那时，纵使有人像狮子一般勇敢，心里也必惊慌，因为全以色列都知道你父亲是个勇士，跟随他的人都是英勇的人。因此，我建议把以色列众人，从但到别是巴，都聚集到你这里来，好像海边的沙那样多，然后你亲自率领他们上战场。无论我们在哪一个地方找到大卫，就攻击他；我们临到他，像露水降在地上一样。这样，他和跟随他的人，就一个也不会留下。如果他退入城里去，以色列众人就要带绳子到那城去，我们要把那城拉到河里去，使那里连一块小石头也找不到。”

智慧人敬畏耶和华（“智慧人敬畏耶和华”或译：“智慧人恐惧战兢”），远离恶事；愚昧人却骄傲自恃。
