Trust in the LORD and do what is right! Settle in the land and maintain your integrity!Then you will take delight in the LORD, and he will answer your prayers.

The reward for humility and fearing the LORD is riches and honor and life.

Fearing the LORD leads to life, and one who does so will live satisfied; he will not be afflicted by calamity.

For the LORD God is our sovereign protector. The LORD bestows favor and honor; he withholds no good thing from those who have integrity.

No harm will overtake you; no illness will come near your home.For he will order his angels to protect you in all you do.They will lift you up in their hands, so you will not slip and fall on a stone.You will subdue a lion and a snake; you will trample underfoot a young lion and a serpent.The LORD says,“ Because he is devoted to me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he is loyal to me.When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him when he is in trouble; I will rescue him and bring him honor.I will satisfy him with long life, and will let him see my salvation.

“ Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.“ Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.“ Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.“ Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.“ Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.“ Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.“ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.“ Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.“ Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil things about you falsely on account of me.Rejoice and be glad because your reward is great in heaven, for they persecuted the prophets before you in the same way.

who will not receive in this age a hundred times as much– homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, fields, all with persecutions– and in the age to come, eternal life.

Praise the LORD! How blessed is the one who obeys the LORD, who takes great delight in keeping his commands.His descendants will be powerful on the earth; the godly will be blessed.His house contains wealth and riches; his integrity endures.

“ Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”These are all destined to perish with use, founded as they are on human commands and teachings.Even though they have the appearance of wisdom with their self- imposed worship and false humility achieved by an unsparing treatment of the body– a wisdom with no true value– they in reality result in fleshly indulgence.

Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.Her ways are very pleasant, and all her paths are peaceful.She is like a tree of life to those who obtain her, and everyone who grasps hold of her will be blessed.

He satisfies the desire of his loyal followers; he hears their cry for help and delivers them.

“ I absolutely despise your festivals! Look, my servants will rejoice, but you will be humiliated!Look, my servants will shout for joy as happiness fills their hearts! But you will cry out as sorrow fills your hearts; you will wail because your spirits will be crushed.

“ Of what importance to me are your many sacrifices?” says the LORD.“ I am stuffed with burnt sacrifices of rams and the fat from steers. The blood of bulls, lambs, and goats I do not want.When you enter my presence, do you actually think I want this– animals trampling on my courtyards?Do not bring any more meaningless offerings; I consider your incense detestable! You observe new moon festivals, Sabbaths, and convocations, but I cannot tolerate sin-stained celebrations!I hate your new moon festivals and assemblies; they are a burden that I am tired of carrying.When you spread out your hands in prayer, I look the other way; when you offer your many prayers, I do not listen, because your hands are covered with blood.Wash! Cleanse yourselves! Remove your sinful deeds from my sight. Stop sinning!

The godly will possess the land and will dwell in it permanently.

Tell the innocent it will go well with them, for they will be rewarded for what they have done.

Then Samuel said,“ Does the LORD take pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as he does in obedience? Certainly, obedience is better than sacrifice; paying attention is better than the fat of rams.

This is the person who will live in a secure place; he will find safety in the rocky, mountain strongholds; he will have food and a constant supply of water.

Even though a sinner might commit a hundred crimes and still live a long time, yet I know that it will go well with God-fearing people– for they stand in fear before him.

I take no delight when they offer up to me frankincense that comes from Sheba or sweet-smelling cane imported from a faraway land. I cannot accept the burnt offerings they bring me. I get no pleasure from the sacrifices they offer to me.’

Wicked men will be wiped out, but those who rely on the LORD are the ones who will possess the land.

But the oppressed will possess the land and enjoy great prosperity.

Do not be carried away by all sorts of strange teachings. For it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not ritual meals, which have never benefited those who participated in them.

“ If you indeed obey the LORD your God and are careful to observe all his commandments I am giving you today, the LORD your God will elevate you above all the nations of the earth.All these blessings will come to you in abundance if you obey the LORD your God:You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the field.Your children will be blessed, as well as the produce of your soil, the offspring of your livestock, the calves of your herds, and the lambs of your flocks.Your basket and your mixing bowl will be blessed.You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.The LORD will cause your enemies who attack you to be struck down before you; they will attack you from one direction but flee from you in seven different directions.The LORD will decree blessing for you with respect to your barns and in everything you do– yes, he will bless you in the land he is giving you.The LORD will designate you as his holy people just as he promised you, if you keep his commandments and obey him.Then all the peoples of the earth will see that you belong to the LORD, and they will respect you.The LORD will greatly multiply your children, the offspring of your livestock, and the produce of your soil in the land which he promised your ancestors he would give you.The LORD will open for you his good treasure house, the heavens, to give you rain for the land in its season and to bless all you do; you will lend to many nations but you will not borrow from any.The LORD will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always end up at the top and not at the bottom, if you obey his commandments which I am urging you today to be careful to do.But you must not turn away from all the commandments I am giving you today, to either the right or left, nor pursue other gods and worship them.

The little bit that a godly man owns is better than the wealth of many evil men,for evil men will lose their power, but the LORD sustains the godly.The LORD watches over the innocent day by day and they possess a permanent inheritance.They will not be ashamed when hard times come; when famine comes they will have enough to eat.

How blessed is every one of the LORD’s loyal followers, each one who keeps his commands!You will eat what you worked so hard to grow. You will be blessed and secure.Your wife will be like a fruitful vine in the inner rooms of your house; your children will be like olive branches, as they sit all around your table.Yes indeed, the man who fears the LORD will be blessed in this way.May the LORD bless you from Zion, that you might see Jerusalem prosper all the days of your life,and that you might see your grandchildren. May Israel experience peace!

He says:“ Listen my people! I am speaking! Listen Israel! I am accusing you! I am God, your God!I am not condemning you because of your sacrifices, or because of your burnt sacrifices that you continually offer me.I do not need to take a bull from your household or goats from your sheepfolds.For every wild animal in the forest belongs to me, as well as the cattle that graze on a thousand hills.I keep track of every bird in the hills, and the insects of the field are mine.Even if I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and all it contains belong to me.Do I eat the flesh of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats?Present to God a thank-offering! Repay your vows to the sovereign One!Pray to me when you are in trouble! I will deliver you, and you will honor me!”

Fairness will produce peace and result in lasting security.My people will live in peaceful settlements, in secure homes, and in safe, quiet places.

“ Is it to God that a strong man is of benefit? Is it to him that even a wise man is profitable?

They lament,‘ Why don’t you notice when we fast? Why don’t you pay attention when we humble ourselves?’ Look, at the same time you fast, you satisfy your selfish desires, you oppress your workers.Look, your fasting is accompanied by arguments, brawls, and fistfights. Do not fast as you do today, trying to make your voice heard in heaven.Is this really the kind of fasting I want? Do I want a day when people merely humble themselves, bowing their heads like a reed and stretching out on sackcloth and ashes? Is this really what you call a fast, a day that is pleasing to the LORD?

The one who conquers I will make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he will never depart from it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God( the new Jerusalem that comes down out of heaven from my God), and my new name as well.

This was a symbol for the time then present, when gifts and sacrifices were offered that could not perfect the conscience of the worshiper.They served only for matters of food and drink and various washings; they are external regulations imposed until the new order came.

I can pray this because his divine power has bestowed on us everything necessary for life and godliness through the rich knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and excellence.Through these things he has bestowed on us his precious and most magnificent promises, so that by means of what was promised you may become partakers of the divine nature, after escaping the worldly corruption that is produced by evil desire.

Now food will not bring us close to God. We are no worse if we do not eat and no better if we do.

I will grant the one who conquers permission to sit with me on my throne, just as I too conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.

This saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on such truths, so that those who have placed their faith in God may be intent on engaging in good works. These things are good and beneficial for all people.

And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose,

And whoever has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.

Instead, pursue his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.“ Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is well pleased to give you the kingdom.

You know the commandments:‘ Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.’”The man said to him,“ Teacher, I have wholeheartedly obeyed all these laws since my youth.”
