后来，保罗来到特庇，又到路司得。在那里有一个门徒，名叫提摩太，是信主的犹太妇人的儿子，他父亲却是希腊人。路司得和以哥念的弟兄都称赞他。保罗要带他同去，只因那些地方的犹太人都知道他父亲是希腊人，就给他行了割礼。

我写这些话，不是要使你们羞愧，而是要警戒你们，好像我所爱的儿女一样。虽然你们在基督里有无数的导师，却没有许多父亲，因我是在基督耶稣里用福音生了你们。所以，我求你们要效法我。因此，我已差提摩太到你们那里去。他在主里面是我亲爱和忠心的儿子；他要提醒你们，我在基督耶稣里怎样行事为人，在各处各教会中怎样教导人。

我靠主耶稣希望很快能差提摩太去见你们，好让我知道你们的事而心里得着安慰。因为我没有别人与我同心，真正关怀你们的事。其他的人都求自己的事，并不求耶稣基督的事。但你们知道提摩太是经得起考验的，他与我为了福音一同服侍，待我像儿子待父亲一样。

我写信给你们在罗马、为上帝所爱、蒙召作圣徒的众人。愿恩惠、平安从我们的父上帝和主耶稣基督归给你们！

于是差派我们在基督福音上作上帝同工的弟兄提摩太前去，在你们所信的道上坚固你们，劝勉你们，

我儿啊，你要在基督耶稣的恩典上刚强起来。

我儿提摩太啊，我照从前指着你的预言把这命令交托你，使你能藉着这些预言打那美好的仗，

就是照父上帝的预知，藉着圣灵得以成圣，以致顺服耶稣基督，又蒙他血所洒的人。愿恩惠、平安多多地赐给你们！
