Do not treat prophecies with contempt

Don’t treat prophecies as if they weren’t important.

Do not despise prophecies,

Do not scoff at prophecies,

Don’t despise prophecies,

do not utterly reject prophecies,

despise not prophesyings;

But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you unless I speak to you either by revelation, by knowledge, by prophesying, or by teaching?

Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.Therefore if the whole church comes together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those who are uninformed or unbelievers, will they not say that you are out of your mind?But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all.And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.

Then the Lord came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him, and placed the same upon the seventy elders; and it happened, when the Spirit rested upon them, that they prophesied, although they never did so again.But two men had remained in the camp: the name of one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad. And the Spirit rested upon them. Now they were among those listed, but who had not gone out to the tabernacle; yet they prophesied in the camp.And a young man ran and told Moses, and said,“ Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.”So Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, one of his choice men, answered and said,“ Moses my Lord, forbid them!”Then Moses said to him,“ Are you zealous for my sake? Oh, that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!”

Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.

Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head.

If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord.But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.

And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,

to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

For we know in part and we prophesy in part.

And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth.And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.

After that you shall come to the hill of God where the Philistine garrison is. And it will happen, when you have come there to the city, that you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with a stringed instrument, a tambourine, a flute, and a harp before them; and they will be prophesying.Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.

Then Saul sent messengers to take David. And when they saw the group of prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as leader over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.And when Saul was told, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. So he asked, and said,“ Where are Samuel and David?” And someone said,“ Indeed they are at Naioth in Ramah.”So he went there to Naioth in Ramah. Then the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on and prophesied until he came to Naioth in Ramah.And he also stripped off his clothes and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Therefore they say,“ Is Saul also among the prophets?”

When they came there to the hill, there was a group of prophets to meet him; then the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.And it happened, when all who knew him formerly saw that he indeed prophesied among the prophets, that the people said to one another,“ What is this that has come upon the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?”Then a man from there answered and said,“ But who is their father?” Therefore it became a proverb:“ Is Saul also among the prophets?”And when he had finished prophesying, he went to the high place.

And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
