When Samuel saw Saul, the Lord said,“ That’s the man I told you about! He will rule my people.”

When Samuel caught sight of Saul, the Lord said to him,“ This is the man I spoke to you about; he will govern my people.”

When Samuel saw a man coming toward him, the Lord spoke to Samuel again. He said,“ He is the man I told you about. His name is Saul. He will govern my people.”

When Samuel saw Saul, the Lord told him,“ Here is the man of whom I spoke to you! He it is who shall restrain my people.”

When Samuel saw Saul, the LORD told him,“ Here is the man I told you about; he will govern my people.”

When Samuel saw Saul, the Lord said to him,“ Behold, the man of whom I spoke to you! This one shall rule over My people.”

So when Samuel saw Saul, the Lord said to him,“ There he is, the man of whom I spoke to you. This one shall reign over My people.”

And when Samuel saw Saul, Jehovah said unto him, Behold, the man of whom I spake to thee! this same shall have authority over my people.

When Samuel saw Saul, the Lord told him,“ Here is the man I told you about; he will rule over My people.”

And when Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said unto him, Behold the man whom I spake to thee of! this same shall reign over my people.

When Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said,“ Here is the man that I told you about! He will rule over my people.”

When Samuel saw Saul, Yahweh said to him,“ Behold, the man of whom I spoke to you! He will have authority over my people.”

In my anger I gave you kings, and in my fury I took them away.

Then the people begged for a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, who reigned for forty years.

For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong. Would you like to live without fear of the authorities? Do what is right, and they will honor you.The authorities are God’s servants, sent for your good. But if you are doing wrong, of course you should be afraid, for they have the power to punish you. They are God’s servants, sent for the very purpose of punishing those who do what is wrong.

When they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought,“ Surely this is the Lord’s anointed!”But the Lord said to Samuel,“ Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”Then Jesse told his son Abinadab to step forward and walk in front of Samuel. But Samuel said,“ This is not the one the Lord has chosen.”Next Jesse summoned Shimea, but Samuel said,“ Neither is this the one the Lord has chosen.”In the same way all seven of Jesse’s sons were presented to Samuel. But Samuel said to Jesse,“ The Lord has not chosen any of these.”Then Samuel asked,“ Are these all the sons you have?”“ There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied.“ But he’s out in the fields watching the sheep and goats.”“ Send for him at once,” Samuel said.“ We will not sit down to eat until he arrives.”So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes. And the Lord said,“ This is the one; anoint him.”

Then I commanded that the gates of Jerusalem should be shut as darkness fell every Friday evening, not to be opened until the Sabbath ended. I sent some of my own servants to guard the gates so that no merchandise could be brought in on the Sabbath day.

I have warned him that judgment is coming upon his family forever, because his sons are blaspheming God and he hasn’t disciplined them.

So I confronted them and called down curses on them. I beat some of them and pulled out their hair. I made them swear in the name of God that they would not let their children intermarry with the pagan people of the land.

But the godless are like thorns to be thrown away, for they tear the hand that touches them.One must use iron tools to chop them down; they will be totally consumed by fire.”
