對他說：『看哪，你年紀老了，你的兒子不行你的道路；現在你要為我們立個王來為我們審案，像列國一樣。』

到底在甚麼事上得以知道我和你人民在你面前蒙恩呢？豈不是因你和我們同去，而使我和你人民跟全地上萬族之民有分別麼？』

但我們呢、我們的國藉本在天上，我們還切候着拯救者主耶穌基督從那裏來呢。

所以『主說：你們要從他們中間出來，自己分別出來；不潔淨之物別接觸了；我就收納你們』；

我從巖頂看他，從山上望他；啊，這是一族獨居之民、不自數列於萬國中的！

但我對你們說過，你們要取得他們的土地，我要將那地賜給你們去擁為己業，一個流奶與蜜之地：我永恆主是你們的上帝，把你們從萬族之民中分別出來的。所以你們要把潔淨的和不潔淨的獸、不潔淨的和潔淨的禽鳥、分別清楚；或是獸或是禽鳥、或是一切爬在地上的，我所給你們分別為不潔淨的，你們都不可因這些活物而自成為可憎。你們要歸我為聖別，因為我永恆主是聖的；是我把你們從萬族之民中分別出來而歸了我。

要因指望而喜樂；在苦難中要堅忍；禱告要恆心而專一；

『因為你是聖別的子民、屬永恆主你的上帝的；從這地上萬族之民中、永恆主你的上帝是揀選了你屬於他做自己的子民。

你們若屬於世界，世界就必愛屬自己的；只因你們不屬於世界，乃是我揀選了你們出世界，故此世界恨你們。

反而和外國人混雜嫁娶，學習他們的行為，

但你們呢、你們乃是蒙揀選的族類，是王家的祭司班，是聖別的邦國，是子民做上帝產業的，要叫你們宣揚那召了你們出黑暗而進入他奇妙之光者的神德。
