對他說：“你老了，看哪，你的兒子不行你的道路，現在求你為我們立一個王治理我們，好像列國一樣。”

人在甚麼事上可以知道我和你的人民在你眼前蒙恩呢？不是因為你與我們同去，使我和你的人民可以和地上所有的人有分別嗎？”

但我們是天上的公民，切望救主，就是主耶穌基督，從天上降臨；

所以，“主說：你們要從他們中間出來，和他們分開，不可觸摸不潔淨的東西，我就收納你們。”

我從高峰觀看他們，從山上眺望他們；這是獨居的民族，不列在萬國之中。

但我對你們說過，你們要承受他們的土地；我要把這流奶與蜜之地，賜給你們作產業。我是耶和華你們的神，把你們從萬民中分別出來。所以你們要把潔淨的和不潔淨的走獸，潔淨的和不潔淨的飛禽分別出來；你們不可因著那些我為你們分別出來，不潔淨的走獸、飛禽，或任何在地上爬行的動物，使自己成為可憎惡的。你們要歸我為聖，因為我耶和華是聖潔的，我把你們從萬民中分別出來，使你們歸我。

在盼望中要喜樂，在患難中要堅忍，禱告要恆切。

“因為你是歸耶和華你的神作聖潔的子民的；耶和華你的神從地上的萬族中，揀選了你作他自己的產業，自己的子民。

你們若屬於這世界，世人必定愛屬自己的；但因為你們不屬於世界，而是我從世界中揀選了你們，所以世人就恨你們。

反而和外族人混居雜處，學習他們的風俗習慣。

然而你們是蒙揀選的族類，是君尊的祭司，是聖潔的國民，是屬神的子民，為要叫你們宣揚那召你們出黑暗入奇妙光明者的美德。
