到了早晨，法老心裏煩亂，就打發人把埃及所有的學術士和智慧人都召了來；法老將他的夢向他們敘說，卻沒有人能給法老解釋。

於是法老也把智慧人和行邪術的召了來；那些人是埃及的術士；他們也用他們的祕術照樣地行。

王使勁地喊着，吩咐人將那些用法術的、那些迦勒底博學的人、和占卜的、領進來。王應時對巴比倫的博士說：『甚麼人能讀這文字，把它的解析向我講明白的、他就可以穿紫紅色袍，脖子上帶金鍊，在國中掌權、居第三位。』

王吩咐人將學術士和用法術的、行邪術的、迦勒底博學的人、都召了來，將王的夢告訴王。他們就來，站在王面前。

我朝見永恆主，在高高的上帝面前屈身，該帶着甚麼？難道我朝見他、要帶着燔祭，帶着一歲的牛犢麼？難道永恆主還喜悅千千的公羊，或萬萬的油河麼？難道我可為我的過犯獻我的長子？為我的罪獻我身所生的果子麼？世人哪，永恆主已指示了你甚麼是善：永恆主向你要的是甚麼：無非是要你行公義，愛堅貞，謙卑謹慎跟你的上帝同行啊。聽啊，永恆主向這城呼叫呢！敬畏他的名是最有效的智慧；這城的支派和議會啊，聽哦！

他就召集了眾祭司長和民間的經學士，向他們查問基督應當生在甚麼地方。

你儘管堅決進行你的符咒吧！進行你幼年所勞碌而行的，進行你許多邪術吧！或者能有用處！或者可以使人戰抖呀！你因你許多計謀而勞累；如今只管讓那些劃分天象、觀看星辰、在月初播知將來之事的、都站起來，救你脫離所要臨到於你的事呀！

因為他擯棄了他的人民，是因為他們充滿了占筮和算命、像非利士人一樣，並且跟外族人拍掌交易。
