摩西把这些话告诉以色列众人，他们都极其悲哀。

他认出来，就说：“这是我儿子的外衣，恶兽把他吃了，约瑟一定被撕碎了！”雅各就撕裂衣服，腰间围上麻布，为他儿子哀伤了多日。他的儿女都起来安慰他，他却不肯受安慰，说：“我必哀伤着下阴间，到我儿子那里。”约瑟的父亲就为他哀哭。

全会众大声喧嚷，那夜百姓哭号。

以斯拉祷告，认罪，哭泣，俯伏在上帝殿前的时候，有以色列中的男女和孩童聚集到以斯拉那里，成了一个盛大的会，百姓无不痛哭。

他到了的时候，看哪，以利正坐在路旁的位子上观望，为上帝的约柜心里担忧。那人进城报信，全城的人就都呼喊起来。

使者到了扫罗住的基比亚，把这事说给百姓听，众百姓就都放声大哭。

耶和华的使者向以色列众人说这些话的时候，百姓放声大哭。
