He inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him by dreams or Urim or prophets.

He asked the Lord for advice. But the Lord didn’t answer him through dreams or prophets. He didn’t answer him when Saul had the priest cast lots by using the Urim.

And when Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord did not answer him, either by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets.

He asked the Lord what he should do, but the Lord refused to answer him, either by dreams or by sacred lots or by the prophets.

He inquired of the LORD, but the LORD did not answer him in dreams or by the Urim or by the prophets.

So Saul inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him, either in dreams, or by the Urim, or by the prophets.

He said,“ Now hear my words. If there is a prophet among you, I, Yahweh, will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak with him in a dream.

Saul asked counsel of God,“ Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?” But he didn’t answer him that day.

He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before Yahweh. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.”

Her gates have sunk into the ground. He has destroyed and broken her bars. Her king and her princes are among the nations where the law is not. Yes, her prophets find no vision from Yahweh.

About Levi he said,“ Your Thummim and your Urim are with your godly one, whom you proved at Massah, with whom you contended at the waters of Meribah.

You shall put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be on Aaron’s heart, when he goes in before Yahweh. Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel on his heart before Yahweh continually.

God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said,“ Jacob, Jacob!” He said,“ Here I am.”He said,“ I am God, the God of your father. Don’t be afraid to go down into Egypt, for there I will make of you a great nation.I will go down with you into Egypt. I will also surely bring you up again. Joseph’s hand will close your eyes.”

But when he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying,“ Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take to yourself Mary, your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

He dreamed and saw a stairway set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.Behold, Yahweh stood above it, and said,“ I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. I will give the land you lie on to you and to your offspring.Your offspring will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. In you and in your offspring, all the families of the earth will be blessed.Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.”

You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man:that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel:to understand a proverb, and parables, the words and riddles of the wise.The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.My son, listen to your father’s instruction, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching:for they will be a garland to grace your head, and chains around your neck.My son, if sinners entice you, don’t consent.If they say,“ Come with us. They hurry to shed blood.For the net is spread in vain in the sight of any bird;but these lay in wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares.She calls at the head of noisy places. At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words:“ How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof;I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you,when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you.Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me;because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of Yahweh.They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof.Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm.”

For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention.In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed;Then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction,

We see no miraculous signs. There is no longer any prophet, neither is there among us anyone who knows how long.

We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God, and does his will, he listens to him.

Don’t boast about tomorrow; for you don’t know what a day may bring.Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.A stone is heavy, and sand is a burden; but a fool’s provocation is heavier than both.Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; but who is able to stand before jealousy?Better is open rebuke than hidden love.The wounds of a friend are faithful, although the kisses of an enemy are profuse.A full soul loathes a honeycomb; but to a hungry soul, every bitter thing is sweet.As a bird that wanders from her nest, so is a man who wanders from his home.Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart; so does earnest counsel from a man’s friend.Don’t forsake your friend and your father’s friend. and the fourth row a chrysolite, an onyx, and a jasper. They shall be enclosed in gold in their settings.

The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream; and he who has my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the straw to the wheat?” says Yahweh.

In the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, some of the elders of Israel came to inquire of Yahweh, and sat before me.Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,“ Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and tell them,‘ The Lord Yahweh says:“ Is it to inquire of me that you have come? As I live,” says the Lord Yahweh,“ I will not be inquired of by you.”’

So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against Yahweh, because of Yahweh’s word, which he didn’t keep; and also because he asked counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire,and didn’t inquire of Yahweh. Therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.
