Then David said in his heart,“ Now I shall perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of seeking me any longer within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.”

大衛意謂、必有一日、我亡於掃羅手、不如遁入非利士地、掃羅則絕其望、不復索我於以色列境、我乃脫於其手、

大闢慮後日為掃羅所害、不如速遁於非利士人地。掃羅見我不在以色列四境、必不索我、我可脫其手。

大衛意謂、恐後有一日、我終亡於掃羅手、不如奔非利士地、掃羅見我不在以色列境內、必絕望不復索我、我乃可脫其手、

But David thought to himself,“ One of these days I will be destroyed by the hand of Saul. The best thing I can do is to escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will give up searching for me anywhere in Israel, and I will slip out of his hand.”

David thought,“ Some day Saul will destroy me. So the best thing I can do is escape. I’ll go to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will stop looking for me everywhere in Israel. His hand won’t be able to reach me.”

But David kept thinking to himself,“ Someday Saul is going to get me. The best thing I can do is escape to the Philistines. Then Saul will stop hunting for me in Israelite territory, and I will finally be safe.”

David said to himself,“ One of these days I’ll be swept away by Saul. There is nothing better for me than to escape immediately to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will give up searching for me everywhere in Israel, and I’ll escape from him.”

Then David said to himself,“ Now I will perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than to safely escape into the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of searching for me anymore in all the territory of Israel, and I will escape from his hand.”

And David said in his heart,“ Now I shall perish someday by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape to the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me anymore in any part of Israel. So I shall escape out of his hand.”

And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.

David thought to himself,“ One of these days I’m going to be swept away by the hand of Saul! There is nothing better for me than to escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of searching for me through all the territory of Israel and I will escape from his hand.”

David said in his heart,“ I will now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel. So shall I escape out of his hand.”

Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel,“ My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God”?Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted;but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

He said to them,“ Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”

Is not this what we said to you in Egypt:‘ Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”

And he said to him,“ Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. Saul my father also knows this.”

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.

“ I, I am he who comforts you; who are you that you are afraid of man who dies, of the son of man who is made like grass,

In those days the Philistines gathered their forces for war, to fight against Israel. And Achish said to David,“ Understand that you and your men are to go out with me in the army.”David said to Achish,“ Very well, you shall know what your servant can do.” And Achish said to David,“ Very well, I will make you my bodyguard for life.”

I said in my alarm,“ All mankind are liars.”

For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel,“ In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” But you were unwilling,and you said,“ No! We will flee upon horses”; therefore you shall flee away; and,“ We will ride upon swift steeds”; therefore your pursuers shall be swift.

And David rose and fled that day from Saul and went to Achish the king of Gath.And the servants of Achish said to him,“ Is not this David the king of the land? Did they not sing to one another of him in dances,‘ Saul has struck down his thousands, and David his ten thousands’?”And David took these words to heart and was much afraid of Achish the king of Gath.So he changed his behavior before them and pretended to be insane in their hands and made marks on the doors of the gate and let his spittle run down his beard.Then Achish said to his servants,“ Behold, you see the man is mad. Why then have you brought him to me?Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this fellow to behave as a madman in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?”

Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

Why is the Lord bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become a prey. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?”

Then the prophet Gad said to David,“ Do not remain in the stronghold; depart, and go into the land of Judah.” So David departed and went into the forest of Hereth.

When Achish asked,“ Where have you made a raid today?” David would say,“ Against the Negeb of Judah,” or,“ Against the Negeb of the Jerahmeelites,” or,“ Against the Negeb of the Kenites.”And David would leave neither man nor woman alive to bring news to Gath, thinking,“ lest they should tell about us and say,‘ So David has done.’” Such was his custom all the while he lived in the country of the Philistines.

Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him,“ O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

As the lords of the Philistines were passing on by hundreds and by thousands, and David and his men were passing on in the rear with Achish,the commanders of the Philistines said,“ What are these Hebrews doing here?” And Achish said to the commanders of the Philistines,“ Is this not David, the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me now for days and years, and since he deserted to me I have found no fault in him to this day.”But the commanders of the Philistines were angry with him. And the commanders of the Philistines said to him,“ Send the man back, that he may return to the place to which you have assigned him. He shall not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For how could this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Would it not be with the heads of the men here?Is not this David, of whom they sing to one another in dances,‘ Saul has struck down his thousands, and David his ten thousands’?”Then Achish called David and said to him,“ As the Lord lives, you have been honest, and to me it seems right that you should march out and in with me in the campaign. For I have found nothing wrong in you from the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords do not approve of you.So go back now; and go peaceably, that you may not displease the lords of the Philistines.”And David said to Achish,“ But what have I done? What have you found in your servant from the day I entered your service until now, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”And Achish answered David and said,“ I know that you are as blameless in my sight as an angel of God. Nevertheless, the commanders of the Philistines have said,‘ He shall not go up with us to the battle.’Now then rise early in the morning with the servants of your lord who came with you, and start early in the morning, and depart as soon as you have light.”So David set out with his men early in the morning to return to the land of the Philistines. But the Philistines went up to Jezreel.Now when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid against the Negeb and against Ziklag. They had overcome Ziklag and burned it with fireand taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great. They killed no one, but carried them off and went their way.And when David and his men came to the city, they found it burned with fire, and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive.

The Lord said to Samuel,“ How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.”

And when the Lord has done to my lord according to all the good that he has spoken concerning you and has appointed you prince over Israel,

For even when we came into Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were afflicted at every turn— fighting without and fear within.
