亞希米勒對王曰、在王之眾臣僕中、誰忠如大衛、彼為王壻、常遵王命而行、並在王之家為尊者、

Ahimelek answered the king,“ Who of all your servants is as loyal as David, the king’s son-in-law, captain of your bodyguard and highly respected in your household?

Ahimelek answered the king,“ David is faithful to you. In fact, he’s more faithful to you than anyone else who serves you. He’s your own son- in- law. He’s the captain of your own personal guards. He’s highly respected by everyone in your palace.

Then Ahimelech answered the king,“ And who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king’s son-in-law, and captain over your bodyguard, and honored in your house?

“ But sir,” Ahimelech replied,“ is anyone among all your servants as faithful as David, your son in law? Why, he is the captain of your bodyguard and a highly honored member of your household!

Ahimelech replied to the king,“ Who among all your servants is as faithful as David? He is the king’s son-in-law, captain of your bodyguard, and honored in your house.

Then Ahimelech answered the king and said,“ And who among all your servants is as faithful as David, the king’s own son in law, who is commander over your bodyguard, and is honored in your house?

So Ahimelech answered the king and said,“ And who among all your servants is as faithful as David, who is the king’s son-in-law, who goes at your bidding, and is honorable in your house?

Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who among all thy servants is so faithful as David, who is the king’s son- in- law, and is taken into thy council, and is honorable in thy house?

Ahimelech replied to the king:“ Who among all your servants is as faithful as David? He is the king’s son-in-law, captain of your bodyguard, and honored in your house.

Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who[ is so] faithful among all thy servants as David, which is the king’s son in law, and goeth at thy bidding, and is honourable in thine house?

Ahimelech replied to the king,“ Who among all your servants is faithful like David? He is the king’s son-in-law, the leader of your bodyguard, and honored in your house!

Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said,“ Who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king’s son- in- law, captain of your body guard, and honored in your house?

約拿單回應他父親掃羅說：「他為什麼該死？他做了什麼呢？」

約拿單向父親掃羅說大衛的好話，對他說：「王不要得罪你的僕人大衛，因為他沒有得罪過你；事實上，他所做的對你有極大的好處。他冒著生命危險，擊殺了那非利士人；耶和華為全以色列施行了大拯救。那時你看見了就歡喜，現在你為什麼要犯罪流無辜人的血，無故殺大衛呢？」

以色列人中有人說：「你們看見上來的這人嗎？他上來是為了羞辱以色列的。有誰能擊殺這人，王必賞賜他極大的財富，並且會把女兒賜給他，還會使他的父家在以色列免除賦稅。」

掃羅問他：「你為什麼和耶西的兒子同謀對付我呢？你給他食物和刀，並且為他求問神，好使他伺機反對我，就像今天這樣！」

大衛回答祭司亞希米勒：「王吩咐我一件事，對我說：『我所派遣你、吩咐你的這件事，一點也不要讓人知道』，因此我已經指示那些年輕人到某某地方去。

願耶和華按著各人的公義和信實回報他！因為耶和華今天把你交在了我手中，我卻不願意對耶和華的受膏者下手。

我父啊，請看！看看你外袍的衣擺就在我手中！我割下了你外袍的衣擺，卻沒有殺你。你要知道，也要看見我的手中沒有惡行或叛逆。儘管你在獵取我的性命，我卻沒有得罪你。

所以掃羅把大衛從身邊調離，任命他為千夫長，他就帶領軍隊出入。

他一切的法規都在我面前，我沒有偏離他的律例。我在他面前是純全的，我謹守自己遠離我的罪孽。所以耶和華照著我的公義，照著我在他眼前的清潔回報我。

大衛就動身，帶著他的部下去擊殺了兩百個非利士人。大衛把他們的包皮帶來，滿數交給王，為要作王的女婿。於是掃羅把他的女兒米甲給大衛為妻。

有人被拉向死地，你要解救；有人踉蹌著去殺戮之地，你一定要攔阻！如果你說：「看哪，我不知道這事！」難道衡量人心的那一位不了解嗎？難道守護你靈魂的那一位不知道嗎？難道他不照著各人所做的回報各人嗎？

你當為啞巴和所有孤苦人的爭訟開口。你當開口，以公義施行審判，為困苦人和貧窮人施行審斷。
