耶西就派人去把他帶來；他面色紅潤，雙目清秀，樣貌英俊。耶和華說：「起來膏抹他，就是這個人！」於是撒母耳拿起裝膏油的犄角，在他兄弟們當中膏抹了他。從那天以後，耶和華的靈就大大臨到大衛。撒母耳起身回拉瑪去了。

那些少女回答說：「是，就在你們前面。現在趕快去吧，他今天確實來到這城了，因為今天民眾要在高所舉行祭祀。你們一進城就會遇見他——那時正是他登上高所用餐之前；民眾不會在他來到之前吃，一定要等他為祭物祝謝了才吃；之後客人才開始吃。現在上去吧，因為你們立刻就會遇見他。」

耶穌又用比喻對他們說：「天國好比一個君王，為自己的兒子預備婚宴。他派了奴僕們去叫那些被邀請的人前來赴宴，可是他們不肯來。王又派了別的奴僕，說：『你們去對那些被邀請的人說，看哪，我的午餐我已經預備好了，公牛和肥畜已經宰殺了，一切都預備好了，請你們來赴婚宴。』
